2 years ago a friend had a late season archery cow tag for Toutle. He was in some timber with his friend from Alaska when a small pack started howling near them. His friend has been around wolves his entire life and without any question knew what they were.

A coworker who is from SW Wa told me he has a close relative who was personally involved in the planting of the 4 breeding pairs recently.

The nay sayers can say what they want. That's cool with me but these are credible people. I've talked to others who have seen wolves on the west side but their stories are a little iffy.

I too agree there have been quite a few credible people talking wolves lately... Although I haven't seen/heard or anything. Eyes have been peeled lately in the areas I hang. Hope to never see one...

Salmo - as Stam mentioned earlier in the thread, without question cats do cover their prey. I've crossed a few kills in my time. Three years ago I harvested a cow during bow season, there was a good bull in the herd and I went back with a friend to try him again. When we came to the rib cage/neck/head I left behind it was covered with pine needles and you could see where the cat had pawed a circle around the carcass pulling things onto the carcass to cover it... We did find cat scat as well... Wish I had a trail camera handy because it would have been fun to get pics of it...

Kris,

Hope you won't think I'm picking on you, but if you've read my posts for any length of time you know I strive to post accurate and credible information. That said, credible sources have names of people who can supply locations, dates, and pertinent data that supports the credibility of the claim. Without some corroborating evidence, your assertion is hearsay and still falls short of being credible.

BTW, I'm neither for nor against wolves being in the Winston unit. I'd just like to know the facts. Hope you can appreciate that.

2 years ago during late archery elk I was hunting Winston and saw what I thought was a coyote, it was probably 80-90 yards away and moving through the trees and only giving me short glimpses of it but I remember thinking that was the biggest damn coyote I had ever seen and I've seen/shot a lot of them. Wish I had gotten a better look or found tracks.
