I use 12/0 Gamakatsu Big Rivers on mine. Most guys use 12/0 trebles, but trebles make releasing Canarys,Yelloweyes and smaller Lings or Butts a hassle.
Place the hook so it doesn't extend past the bottom of the jig,and so that it can't reach up and tangle the mainline.

Treble hooks are a no-no for Halibut in all the local/coastal waters... At least that's my reading of this:
"Halibut - Hook and line angling and spearfishing only. A hand-held line is permitted. Only one line with up to two hooks may be used."

No where in the regs does it say "single point hook restriction" like it does for salmon and strugeon. So since they are legal and effective I use Mustad duratain trebles (3549D). 9.0X0.75" pipes get a 12/0 and 12.5X0.75" get a 14/0. Google images has photos of SundayMonday's description for hook placement.

Working those 12.5" jigs gets old in a hurry. No doubt. Thankfully last weekend it didn't take longer than 60 seconds to hook up after touching bottom. Even got a teener clipped chinook on the drop on a pipe jig in 380 FOW. AKA black-toothed, or silver lingcod.

In the Marine Area Rules under Tackle/Gear Rules it states:
"Barbless hooks are required for all species in Marine Areas 5-13, except forage fish jig gear."

I stand corrected, the definitions sections define a "Treble Hook" (singular) as a hook (again singular) with 3 points on a common shank. So by this definition it seems legal not just to have a treble, but in fact TWO trebles on your pipe jig if you want.
They do appear to need to be entirely barbless however.

Pipe jigs kick ass for offshore lings and halibut Three fish in three drops Here's a link that shows how to build your own pipe jigs Make Your Own Pipe Jigs Dad and I just finished up building about thirty 18 ouncer's to get me thru the summer. The two pounders are great for fishing deep (Westport/LaPush), but for the 150 to 350 feet of water that we mostly fish the 18's work just fine. That huge-ungous halibut that Parker, Canyon Man, and Stam fought for two hours on my boat last summer was hooked on a pipe jig with a chunk of meat on it. They work great

A hook placement photo. 9" with a 12/0 in this case. Hook cannot foul the bottom of the jig or the or the leader when anchored in the middle of the pipe. Depends on the length of pipe and the length of the hook/swivel/splitring.

Negative. In areas 1-4 barbed hooks are legal for species other than salmon.
