I'm thinking about slinging the thick line in the Forks area. I've caught several summer fish on the fly but have never tried for winter fish. I've tied up some popsicles and a few other paterns and would appreciate any advise on other flies that might work. If all else fails I'm back to my baitcaster. Fish on!

Well, it depends on where you're exactly going. If you're heading towards the Hoh, I've had alot of luck on red flies. Usually either marabou flies or woolie bugger type flies in red or red/black. I caught a really nice native hen last year on just a plain red marabou fly with some red flashabou highlights on a sz 1 salmon fly hook. It all depends on water conditions. I'd tie up some pink, red, red/black, green/black, and purple flies. (if by chance it's gin clear a sz 4 salmon hook in black marabou may be handy too). I usually have a good assortment of all those and usually can hook into something with one of them.
tight lines...............

Thanks for your help Steelheader69. The paterns you mentioned are about what I had in mind. Do you fish them weighted with a floating line or with a sink tip. Fishing in the summer I've always gotten away with a floating line and a weighted fly to get deep.
