I have fished steelhead a long time but rarely catch whitefish. Strong fighter for there size. I see large schools during low water periods so I know they are there. Anybody got a good whitefish technique?

a Bead Head Pheasant Tail or Hares Ear drives them nuts, as do small glo bugs.

In this order and very small. Hares ear, Prince, and pheasent tails. These fish are a lot of fun and can save the day during the winter months. Not that I have done it but I see bait fisherman use maggots on small hooks and just kill them. They are also very good in the smoker. Try this you will like it. 1 quart Kikoman. 1/2 cup brown suger. Garlic powder ( some ) 4 oz lemon juice. 1 can frozen apple juice. 3 cans water. Soak at least 12 hours in the brine. Its cold outside so over here it can take 10 hours in the little chef. Use alder wood. They keep well in the fridge but they won't be around very long.
