Kinda late report from last weekend but better late than never. We took 4 fish Friday, 2 on Saturday and 3 Sunday in the Columbia.. here's how it looked in pitures..
Sunrise over GH. Pic taken with a new Nokia prototype phone pushing 16mp and compressed.
Lots of this waiting for a bite last weekend:
Carnage scene after 3 bites in 20 minutes...
Catching kings in the rain, welcome to fall chinook GH style:
Friday's lineup of 3 Chinook and a Coho. We felt lucky to be on top of a bunch when they finally decided to bite at the start of the ebb:
Nice conditions surprised us Saturday afternoon:
We ended up with two Chinook Saturday that we completely lucked into. What happened to this fishery this year? Conditions were prime yet the bay seemed absent of any fish.. reports from the fleet were dismal.
Staying in Westport has it's advantages. Thanks to Mark Coleman for letting us clean our catch down on float 14 and cocktails afterwards.
& a Double rainbow at the mouth of the Cowlitz after landing a double on Hatchery Chinook to basically end the day on the Columbia Sunday. No fish pics, all of them your normal 6-10# clones.
First time we had fished this area where "they never troll herring this time of year"...well, we didnt listen and hooked 13 landed 6 and kept three to round off the weekend.
This was one of the nicest grade of salmon I have ever cut personally, super firm, red fish from the harbor. What a killer fishery, too bad it's the model of mismanagement in Washington state salmon fisheries.
