I'm not against guiding per se. Those guides that practice C&R for nates are limiting their impact and therefore aren't putting nates at significant further disadvantage. From what I've heard, Bob is definately one of those guides. Guides that don't consistently practice C&R should be a concern to all of us. They're out there many days a year taking many fish (nates I'm talking about) for their clients (probably with moderate adverse impact to nates..I don't have any numbers here so I'm generalizing). Tribal nets on the other hand target nates extensively with (I believe) significant impact to those stocks. I can't think of a more effective way to take a lot of fish in a short period of time than lining gill nets across a river. I believe it is possible to work a mutally agreeable buyout plan with tribes to greatly reduce the netting of wild steelhead.
