Economics is one thing, but we're supposed to be helping the salmon species survive for generations. If we keep doing things like this to a resource which is by and large endangered, we're not going to have anything left.

The point isn't about what an eye sore this is. It's about the complete disrespect of a wild resource for profit. Look at any fish stocks in the ocean. We've decimated them. And if these sorts of practices continue we're going to have nothing left. Just imagine if this was a whale! It would make national news! If the Indians or commercial fisheries had to answer for things like this, they would become more and more rare. So why not report it to local news? Give it a shot. Hell, Get Jesse! These sorts of interest stories are what the investigators live for!

It's a damned shame and it should make us all sick. Tribal and commercial alike.

Tan - it won't get air time. You can report it, but it won't go anywhere. It must really tear the bleeding heart libs in Seattle apart with the decision not too. Racist news or save the environment?

But Joe's video gave me an idea! Who wants to make a home video and get Youtube famous? I'm in and I'll even play the damn Indian, which instead will be a colonial white man.

Tell that to the hungry, homeless guy. Just because you can't sell it doesn't mean you can't do something good with it.

The problem is people breaking the law.

No one is willing to pay the cost of collecting and transporting these carcases to give away to those homeless and hungry guys.

What law? If it was Tribal guys there may not be a tribal law against that.

It is their rez to be managed as they wish. Since they are the leading conservationists whatever they do with natural resources is done with the long-range future in view.

The feds don't give a [Bleeeeep!]. There are massive roe stripping fisheries in Alaska and Washington that are legal.

I see no sign these fish have been gutted. It would be nice to know the true story here. I wonder if we ever will?

Lots of dead bucks left for nothing. You can see a few fish with small incisions.

damn, your eyesight is good... incisions and gender determination from a picture that looks like several of my moon photos...

damn your good...

a few years back there was piles of Pinks just off of Canyon and 176th out here, eggs gone, pile of fish... and by pile, i mean close to 2k pounds likely...

im starting to realize, there is nothing we can do, but do right by yourself... unless you teach them young, they will never get, or respect, the meaning of fishing, and what truely magnificent creatures they are....

Next high water they will all be well distributed downstream. Not going to be a fungal matt or other ecological tragedy there. If the carcasses had value, they would have sold them and the nutrients carried away from the system. Would that have been better?

When you see streams where salmon escapement is at a more ecologically rather than economically appropriate level it looks like that picture.
