I have always wondered if men should be allowed to fish. Every once and a while I will see a man out fishing. I think it is so strange! Why would they want to fish when they should be home cooking and cleaning? I just don't understand how their wives could possibly let them out to fish??? Its especially annoying on those rare occasions when they pull up next to my drift boat and have a fish that is bigger than mine, or perhaps brighter. I know, it doesn't happen very often, but it has happened! I would just like some opinions... Should men be allowed to fish? Thanks! Jen

Yes... Men did not always fish. Long ago, they stayed home and did the cooking and cleaning, while the women shopped. Gradually, the shopping bags contained less and less food, but more and more make-up and foundation garments. The day came when there was no food at all in the bags. With families facing starvation, men had little choice but to fetch their dust-gathering fishing rods and head to the streambanks and shorelines.
Since the advent of fast food and delivery pizza, men no longer fish for survival. Today, they fish to honor those men who courageously fished in the past. Fortunately for the economy, women still shop.

Well hi Jen- Imagine my suprize that the first name that I recognize from the Ifish Db is YOU!!! I've been reading, then posting here for a few days now. Ah, the www is so fascinating.- Now these people up in NW Wash. should know that you are a local Tillamook girl & steelhead fishin' legend that would have almost single handedly wiped out the run in one of our favorite rivers if you didn't release most of them! So, take it easy on these guys (& gals). And yes, it is alright for us men to fish too; and keep letting us fish those 2 drifts BEFORE you do!- BTW, I've never asked you if it's alright for gentlemen to call lady fisherpersons, fishermen- it rolls so much easier off the tongue- or is that improperly sexist? Talk to ya later. - Steve - P.S. Don't tell anybody. I haven't.

Men have to be able to fish. It keeps the mind clear, so that after cooking and cleaning we won't have a headache.

Hi there Steve! I did indeed release most of them. In fact, this year I kept one and one only beautiful bright steelhead! I do this to allow for the men and children to fish!! Kidding... This is A GREAT discussion board, and I have learned a lot listening in for a bit! I especially enjoy hearing about the Hoh and the Quinalt! I think I shall run away from home and become a river person. (something like a street person with a g loomis instead of a packsack.) I shall cook fish over a burn barrel, and sleep under the warmth of my neoprenes with a lifejacket as a pillow. Anyway.... off to real life, and thanks everyone for the very clever responses! Fun way to start a day....Now I just wish it would rain so I could fish! Jen

I just LOVE this BB! Such interesting topics. I guess we can let men fish once on a while---they need to keep thier skill level up and nothing challenges the skill like fishing next to a woman, becaue we all know that we can out fish them any time, any day. I think it has something to do with bananas? It is heart warming to know that there are a lot of women that enjoy the sport as much I do..would be nice to hook up with a few to fish with, I get tired of listening to my boyfriend when I can and he can't. I should be allowed to fish once in awhile, especially when I fish with my girl friend. Why because she is a wonderful fisherwoman and brings out the best in me on the river. When I fish by myself or close fishing buddies it's all work and intense concentration on finding Steelhead. When I fish with my girl friend I enjoy all aspects of the river and sometimes the surrounding woods. She makes me take time to sit down on the bank and watch an Eagle or an Otter. She justs makes a trip to the river a complete trip that is so much more enjoyable. I've always needed the intense fishing trips by myself but over the last couple of years the enjoyment of her company on the river and her easy going aproach to fishing has reopened my vision to how much fun fishing can be. So yes men should be able to fish sometimes, especially with gals that know what fishing is really about .

I really like it when my wife lets me take her fishing and allows me to take her fish off the hook and then she lets me bait her hook too.And if I get all my housework done she allows me to clean her fish and if I'm really lucky and only if I cleaned tne bathroom she lets me catch a fish, and then I get to put the boat away and clean up after the trip and then I GET TO COOK THE FISH.I'm really lucky my wife lets me fish....Makes me feel like a real man and makes my buddies jealous thats the best part. ESP. if I've been really really good and get to go fishing without her.
