I didn't read anywhere where Phil states that homosexuals should be burned at the stake, etc. He says that he believes its a sin. A lot of people believe that also. Its his right to believe what he wants. He was asked his opinion and he gave it. Nothing more.

He is paid to speak his mind on a reality TV show and is dismissed for doing the same.


His opinion represents a huge slice of society and is entertaining but this belief just isn't fashionable currently. Obviously cable TV producers don't support freedom of speech and Phil is now their scapegoat after they invested so much time and money exposing bayou culture.


I like Phil, he says what he means and means what he says. Whether he is correct or offensive isn't part of the value.

I've never seen the show, but I do agree with his quote.

A & e has suspended Phil Robertson.

My, oh my, how the times have changed, even in just my 40 years. When I was a young lad, Phil would have been more likely to get kicked off his own show for coming out of the closet. Seems to me this is taking things too far in the opposite direction. I think the day we get it right will be the day when EVERYONE can speak their minds and live their lives without fear of persecution.

What if he had said "If you like your DR, you can keep your DR."

I do think it's important to make the distinction between "free speech" (to which Mr. Robertson is clearly entitled) and the "free market"...

So Phil, he really REALLY can say what he wants. It's a free country. He did so, and nobody is remotely suggesting he should be arrested for saying it.

But A&E (or whomever the network is) can decide he no-longer represents the values they want the show and their network to espouse. That's the free market. They can hire someone else to put on their airwaves. And we may not like their decision and we're free to spend our time watching other people's airwaves in protest. That's the free market, too.

The least surprising thing in the world is that Phil feels this way -- if you watch the show you know who he is. The question is only if he keeps those opinions to himself or not -- in this case he made a choice, and so did A&E.

To me, this is all just business.

Coming to a Fox station near you

I agree with IR. So now A&E can go back to being a 2-bit channel that no one watches. I guess they'd rather be PC then make $$$ with the highest rated cable show. Their choice.

A&E goes out of their way to encourage the Robertsons to speak out and then they pretend to be surprised by Phil's belief. Obviously, A&E can air whatever they want...

I think the whole thing is probably just a publicity stunt. The question would be whether or not Phil contributed knowingly.

Phil is wise.


If it came down to it, I'd choose hunting over football too. Keep in mind I love football.
