It states that CCA paid for radio ads promoting the continuation of the hatchery plants in these rivers? I smell a whopper. Anybody have any links or evidence of these radio ads? I'd love to see proof of that.

Be really interested to know if there is any merit to his claims. I tried to post a comment to this blog but I can't get it to post. Seems like a hack job to me. And I'm not sure what you or the blogger are trying to get across here. That you're pissed WDFW is allowing for more public input on these issues? Whatever side of the coin you're on, you shouldn't have an issue with that. And for the record, I'm all for these gene banks, just hate to see what appears to me to be an amateur flame job. Again if there is any proof to this, I'd be really interested in seeing it.

Just delivering the info. Public input is good, especially if people show up to support positive changes for wild steelhead.

I'm excited to see the next 10 years on the EFL... I'm anxious to see if it can become what it once was. A magnificent river that produced a large percentage of 20+ pound winter native steelhead.

Although we still witness them, they're a needle in the haystack compared to the late 70's and early 80's....

Will be fun to see it all unfold..

Can confirm the radio ads. I only heard it once and it was on Portland area sports radio station 750 AM.

And it said, "this is the CCA speaking, and we want you to show up at the WDFW public input meeting to fight hatchery reform on the NF Toutle and Wind rivers? We the CCA are against hatchery reform on these rivers? "

Just seems really odd to me. Can you elaborate?

I thought that I read once in the Statewide Steelhead Management Plan there was only 1 Wild Steelhead Gene Bank established per unique genetic region... cutting plants is bad for fishing, at the same time condensing where fish are planted creates even more crowded terminal zones that kill the experience.

I'm not 100% up to snuff on my science, but would it be too much to ask for a succession from full out plants on retard hatchery fish > to wild broodstock > to full out wild production? I really don't understand why there is all the sudden a huge urgency to make drastic change... unless they want to take the cash & run.

It was weeks ago when I heard it, so I can't remember the exact wording. The ad mentioned there was a comment period open about the establishment of wild steelhead genetic banks/ending of hatchery steelhead plants on the Lewis and Green rivers. How they believed this would have a detrimental effect on the local communities near these fisheries and finished saying this was sponsored by the Coastal Conservation Association. That was the basic gist of it anyhow.

Couple more discussions out there in the blogosphere about the CCA's involvement or lack thereof in this matter. Thought it would be prudent, since I thought the language in the original blog was pretty incendiary. I've posted comments and tried to email the blogger, but no response. Either way, get out there and support these gene banks, just don't shoot your allies.
