More about what can turn off fish. I have seen a hole full of fish that were totally active turn off in an instant after someone stood up in the boat and took a piss into the water.. Maybe it was just a fluke but it did happen. I don't let people pee out of my boat, I row in on request.

B-Run - I've heard of that. But if the bite went off in an instant could it have been they saw your partner stand up? Seems it wouldn't affect the hole your in because the pee would float with neutral bouancy down river quite a ways before reaching bottom. And I have witnessed many times in mid to large rivers where a lot of boats and peeing in the river were going on and the bite stayed good. However, could it be one of the reasons that fish tend to go off the bite after a lot of fishing pressure; along with other factors? Good debatable Q. I read in a mag. article of the amazing amount of untreated sewage that gets dumped into our coastal waters, and not just by the big cities. Could anadramous fish actually acclimate somewhat to these scents just offshore before entering the river so that they might be somewhat used to it? Aweful thought, but possible. And how about the guys that don't want to give up their anchor spot and some desperate guy dumps #2 in the river? Have actually heard of this. Now that could put a whole river off, especially if the guy ate burritos the night before. More opinions...

And to think that all this time, I thought those were Bay Ruth Bars floating down the river. Must have been Caddyshack. Is that what you guys on the West Coast are referring to as "Logging" to close to the stream bank? Hehe

I was fishing the Lyre this winter, I stepped out of the water to piss (maybe 2 steps) and the guy above me started casting and wading down into the small area I had been working for a very short time. I let him know I was just taking a leak(as if he couldn't tell) but he kept fishing. What do you do? Reel truth, I've never seen anyone planting browns around here. I hope I never do.(That can't be comfortable...for anyone!

Hey Reel Truth. Don't chase rough fish like Muskies. I don't think "rump biscuits" hurt the steelies attitude for feeding at all. If so, we wouldn't catch a fish around here. Here is a "biscuit story" that will make you giggle.

About ten years ago, I was sitting in a fence line in a chisel plowed cornfield in Northern Iowa hunting deer. I had the late muzzle loader season, and the deer were moving due to the -20 weather. All of a sudden, this impending feeling of "bowel doom" struck me. It was now or never. Knowing full well that "logging activities" near my hunting area, would horse up the hunting, I flinched up the cheeks and made tracks to a distant fenceline that was further away form where I had parked on a gravel road. In the howling sub arctic conditions, I took off my coat, and lowered my insulated bib overalls, grabbed the barb wire fence, and cut loose with the mother load. Instant gratification was mine. Much to my dismay, I had over shoot the runway, and was heartbroken to find it all in side my bibs. Here I stand in Antartica, with my insulated bibs full of "business".

Being the type to avoid such contact, I had no choice but to clean up the construction site, and head for the truck. One problem, no paper. My hunting knife made quick business of my shirt sleeve, and this problem was alleviated. Now the long march lay ahead of me. I sure as hell wasn't going to pull up my bibs, so the cold didn't seem to be such a threat. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes to walk a half mile in 6 inch snow with "fully loaded" bib overalls around your ankles in -20 weather? I do. About 35 minutes.

My problem continued as I got to the truck. My legs, and everything form my navel down, was a brilliant shade of purple. I had a hell of a time getting in the truck without trashing the upholstery. I arched my back, and propped my feet, and drove about 4 miles to get home. Upon getting home, I threw the coveralls in the garbage, and soaked in a warm tub for over an hour. I shook for the rest of the day, and my lower body seemed to itch for a week.

Moral of the story: Check the runway before your final approach. Fish On. LOL

My sides hurt from laughing at hawk. Bet you have been careful unloading from then on....Roflmao
I have always had the superstition that peeing in the river was good luck. No scientific proof. I read a study a long time ago about the human scent effects on fish. Think it was in sts .....long time ago.

Thanks for the interest Ak K. I hope to submit a final draft by late this summer for copyrighting, which is the easy part. I have been in touch with STS Books about publishing thru them, but they don't pay high royalties, so need to deal around. With minimal rewrites I hope to have it published by the end of the year. It will be entitled The REEL TRUTH, a very tech intensive study of the intricate method's of this guide, and others, fishing for Salmon and Steelhead. It will follow with the funniest and most unusual stories from 35 years of fishing for them all around the NW. We are also having a Fishing Story Contest on our ifish.net site in Oregon. I will include many of those as well as some from this site in the book. I didn't think I would be including stories about crapping and peeing, but after reading the great ones here in the Funny Fishing Stories, Fishing With Bears, and Peeing In The River posts (among others), that thought has now changed! - Thanks for asking, Steve Hanson - BTW, I bet P.A. could be Palmer? Driving the AK Hwy., I loved both the beautiful Matanuska Valley/Canyon area and the Wrangle Range area- just awesome!

All this talk about peeing. Just wet yourself in whatever fashion is least offensive and get to fishin. Hell, anyone played a 50lb king for over an hour in a nasty chop at Freshwater Bay, there will be no pulling over for a dribble, let alone peeing over the side.....

Hey Bottom, You didnt' need to take the namesake Freshwater Bay so literally as to pee in your pants. And your post swings from seeming discust with the peeing subject to advocating people just pee in their pants as you do. Friends shouldn't let friends drink and post messages! You were lucky this time Bottom. Don't stretch your luck. You could hurt someone. ~~ As for peeing in the river, most good rivers with a good run of fish are going to have a number of boaters spread out on it with peeing in the river going on all day. Animals pee in the river also. While I'm sure this doesn't help the bite any, it couldn't be too much of a negative factor or there wouldn't be a lot of fish caught on crowded rivers. And there is often a lot of fish caught on crowded rivers. The guys in boats don't save their day's piss in jars! Do they? ..shtick

Hey I just though of something else significant. There was a subject on here with about 40 replys about drinking beer & fishin'! Many of you guys have got to have had a lot of experience peeing & fishin' in the river. So, how does it affect the salmon/steelhead bite?? Or can U remember? ..shtick
