I’m just back from five weeks hunting near the Arizona/Mexico border. What I saw there was a real eye-opener. The amount of traffic across the border is amazing, as is the amount of $$$ we are spending to stop it. Border Patrol cars, ATVs, horseback patrols and foot patrols were everywhere. We camped on a remote road with almost zero traffic, except for a Border Patrol cars cruising by about every fifteen minutes. I ran into a group of four Border Patrol agent in bulletproof gear armed with ARs more than a mile from the nearest road. There are signs of human traffic everywhere. Abandoned clothing and backpacks are common – water bottles, both empty and full, food wrappers and tons of tracks show how many are crossing this very rough and brutal country. Almost every day someone in our group encountered illegals. In addition to huge fences, we have drones blimps and spotters on many high ridge tops. Big new roads near the border built solely for patrolling the border this in addition to the border checkpoints on every highway near the border. My hunting buddy found a bale with about 50 lbs of marijuana in it. He got the border patrol to show them. They weren’t all that impressed. Apparently many tons a year makes it across. I honestly don't know what we can do. The traffic is significant, but so is the amount we spend to stop it. Just for fun I Goggled to see how many Border Patrol officers we have. It’s in excess. 20,000.

I don't care, what if all those people just started hiking up here and fishing/hunting? What would happen then? Would some new hatcheries open up thanks to the DREAM ACT?

Hell no, they need to stay where they are and create their own government or at least participate in the one they have. Why the hell should America be the whore, why can't these other countries be just as great and give us a hand for once?

Hank,
I was not proposing anything. Just pointing out its a big problem and that we are spending a lot of money to fix it. I see no easy solution. We can't just let them flood in and we can't stop them from trying to get in.
I don't doubt that 250,000 were apprehended. The small portion of desert I was in had very obvious signs of many illegals coming across. I wonder how many make it? I think the ones not part of drug gangs are very unsophisticated and ill equipped for the rough country, hot days and surprisingly cold nights.
The one I saw had only a thin coat and no backpack for food or water. He was more than 60 miles from Tuscon over VERY rough country. He had one hell of a hard hike ahead of him.

I have a friend who is a Border patrol agent out of Rio Rico in Arizona.
It sounds like about the worst job I could imagine. He says it is like playing Army against people who aren't playing. The amount of bureaucratic red-tape, rules, and agendas make the agents feel like they have the bad hand all the time. Which causes most of them to act like dicks.
Confiscating 2T of marijuana gets a mention in the weekly brief.

Clearly, it's "no country for old men"; which begs the question... It's also no place for old cars, old dogs, old women, and beer that's past its pull date.

More than once my buddy who's is almost 70 mentioned that it's no country for old men. It really is rough country. Several times a friend with pointing dogs said, "My dog is on point 200 yards up that ridge." To which I would reply, "Have a nice hike."

AP is 100% correct. Start a "war" on anything, immediately privatize it, and start the neverending process of taxing the people and then funneling those tax dollars to the profiteers.
It is the most American of American Ways.

Washington and Colorado are doing more to stop Mexican marijuana smuggling than the Border Patrol will ever be able to do.
How are they doing for the heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, etc. smuggling? Unfortunately, Washington might be holding its own on the meth front. If you are asking me how the border patrol is doing with regards to smuggling those other things, I really don't know but I'd venture to say "worse" considering all of those things are likely easier to conceal, tougher to detect, and probably have more sophisticated methods of movement? Maybe they need more money, right?

The borders aren't going anywhere...too much money to be made protecting them.
Border problems aren't going anywhere, either...there's no money to be made on a solved problem.

Border patrol is an industry. Just like the drug war. Just like military contractors. They are all connected even. Bigger budgets lead to bigger budgets. "We're at war" so no rational conversation about cost/benefits ever takes place.
Washington and Colorado are doing more to stop Mexican marijuana smuggling than the Border Patrol will ever be able to do.
Yep. Ya' beat me to it again AP.

I'm impressed, a discussion about the border without someone claiming it's a conspiracy to appease democrat voters (latinos) as though gop supporters don't benefit from a cheap labor pool.

I say we ship people like brewer, and any of his kin, to mexico in trade for illegals. Most of the illegal Mexicans I know are far better people than most of the Americans that I know.
BTW this reply was CnPd! No one cares what you say.

How are they doing for the heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, etc. smuggling? Why, with the help of the USG, of course! There's big money in Drug Smuggling, and for 30 years it's been widely speculated and in many cases proven that the USG imports drugs. So, the big movers dont have to go through our borders, they just fly it right into the USA with CIA and DEA complicity. http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/crime/item/12247-cia-manages-drug-trade-mexican-official-says

Hopefully, nobody. At some point humanity will move past the primitive tribalism of the Nation State and the ridiculous idea of "leaders" and "governments."
fat chance. you put 500 m'fers on an island people would still break off into cliques and 'tribes' and would want to rule the island. it's just human nature.

Anarchy has been the norm for humans for 90+% of their time on this planet. It has only been in the last 10k years or so that humans have settled down, and the worst of them have discovered that they can give themselves a fancy title and get a free ride.
Anarchy is normal - Governments are not. Anarchy is coded into your genes - it takes a person utterly out-of-touch with reality to accept government as normal.
Last I knew, the terms for such out-of-touch behavior are, Delusional Disorder, Psychosis, Psychotic Depression, and Schizophrenia. . . when did these mental illnesses become desirable traits? You forgot the most common term, DEMOCRAT!
