...Missouri's MVP (voted by his teammates) and SEC Defensive Player of the Year. 6'2", 260...shitton of stats to back up those awards. One of the biggest prospects in college football this year. With the combines coming up soon, Michael Sam came out as gay today...the first openly gay big time NFL prospect. Sounds like his coach, teammates, and friends at Missouri all knew he was gay, too. He's going to be a big time starter in the NFL soon, too. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/10/sports...draft.html?_r=0Fish on... Todd

If you had read the article instead of just freaking out you'd have found out that it wasn't much of a secret, he'd told his teammates and coaches long ago, and was pretty open about it on campus. But no...it doesn't really matter to most the world, but something tells me it will matter a lot to the bigots and dimwits, though they're all too big of pussies to whine about it to his face, I bet Fish on... Todd, I would think that a man who possessed your education would realize that it is an entirely reasonable concept for any society to be able to establish and enforce any social morays that it deems to be necessary to retain the cohesiveness of that society.
What, no anthropology classes?

Why is he all of a sudden making it known and wtf does it really matter?
LGBT Agenda. is the answer to both of your questions. While throughout all of time the definition of marriage has been the joining of a man and a woman, for some reason that definition would now be considered to be "unequal rights" and unacceptable. Evidently times have changed, for the better? In the that respect I think naught. Perhaps tomorrow, up might be down, and port might be starboard.

I highly doubt any NFL team would have cared about him being gay or not as long as he could play. They care only about winning and making money. If he would have helped with each of these the other would matter little.
I do think many will care about the circus that this will now be. As with the Tebow circus this will be a distraction from winning and making money. No one needs that and as his draft stock drops it will give all the LWWJ types a reason to say "bigot" and "racists".......thier two favorite words.

I read Peter King's article and there are at least 5 GM's that say he is too small to play DE in the NFL. There are probably more than a few more that won't want to deal with the whole issue too. KInd of like the GMs that thought Russell Wilson is too short to play QB in the NFL?

He should have dropped the homo bomb after the draft. In an equal talent scenario why would a team pick him? All the drama that will follow this guy will make Tebo and Teo look like child's play. What a way to kill the team.

What a way to kill the team. Full disclosure now is what makes him a stand up guy. The only drama is created by the media. Every NFL player has already shared a locker room with a gay guy. NFL locker rooms are all about team! Media is all about keeping pea-wits divided. Any NFL franchise that looks at anything other than talent when deciding to draft or not to draft this guy is a bottom dwelling franchise. Which is why he will most likely end up on a really good team.

Homophobia would be an irrational fear or hatred of homosexuals, if it really existed. The current usage of terms like "homophobic" and "homophobe" imply that all opposition to homosexuality is crazy. Actually there are many sociological, psychological and medical reasons that many logically-thinking people oppose homosexuality. People who abuse terms like "homophobia" are implying (whether they know it or not), that it's impossible to "love the sinner and hate the sin". No one talks about opposition to alcoholism in terms of hatred, because groups like Alcoholics Anonymous have popularized the view that drinking alcohol is addictive. The term homophobia, when it is applied to every criticism of homosexuality, implies that all such criticism is irrational (see phobia).
Commenting on its psychological use, WorldNetDaily managing editor David Kupelian states,
This is how the "marketers of evil" work on all of us. They transform our attitudes by making us feel as though our "super uncomfortable" feelings toward embracing unnatural or corrupt behavior of whatever sort – a discomfort literally put into us by a loving God, for our protection – somehow represent ignorance or bigotry or weakness.[1]
Homophobia is an etymologically incorrect term which most directly denotes "an unreasoning fear of or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality",[2] but it also includes a fear of increased political and social power of homosexuals in advancing their agenda. The term is used regularly by activists to describe several kinds of people, which may or may not match the actual definition of "fear of homosexuals and homosexuality". The recipients of the homophobia label include those who feel uncomfortable around homosexuals, those who reveal that they oppose "gays," and even those who may privately support homosexuality but who fail to publicly support homosexuals when called upon to do so.[3]
Conservative Christians and other people who strongly object to homosexuality often take offense at this term, which had led to the use of the term heterophobia to describe those who manifest an antipathy to those who uphold heterosexuality as normative or exclusively valid. While the term phobia is an irrational fear of something, nobody is afraid of homosexuals, and nobody fears contracting homosexuality. That is in contrast to heterophobia, whose existence has been documented.

Beg your pardon.. I'll rephrase that: BTW, that '69 Redskins team was coached by Lombardi who had a brother that happened to be gay homosexual. Lombardi had zero tolerance for homophobia people intolerant? of gays homosexuals. Better now? Absolutely.

I really could have cared less if he was gay or not. Does he do his job on the field or not? Simple as that.
I have friends, co-workers, and family members who are gay. Surprisingly the fact that they are gay almost never comes up because I like them for who they are, not because they are gay.
Good for him, but I think somebody needs a little attention. Non issue this day in age.
