On April 12, the local Battle Ground weekly newspaper, The Reflector, ran a nice photo of one Mr. Roy Williams holding two trophies which he reportedly picked up in Daybreak Park, E. Lewis River, in the early morning hours of March 29. He looks pretty happy, but this may change because the East Lewis was closed to steelhead fishing about two weeks previous! Bet he had the park all to himself....

Two biggest were around 17 each, caught on back to back casts on the Hoh, March 21st. Both chrome bright hens and the end to a great day where I hooked twelve natives. But the best fishing news for me this year was the fantastic fishing on a South Puget Sound area river five minutes from home. I fished this river every weekend from Christmas thru early March and had multiple hookups every day but one. End of year results were 41 fish hooked 27 landed. All but four were beautiful native fish which were all released. On a year where alot of anglers are complaining about the returns, this was a real blessing and hopefully next year will be just as good. Let's hope my summer run streams do as well this year.

Caught a hatchery summer buck about 14 pounds last July on my annual fishing vacation on my zipperlip. Here's the story. My mentor told me that I needed to fish other areas, whitewater pockets, rather that just hole hogging the best holes. We went to one of the holes and I approached it from up top and fished it from this boulder. So I started casting across the river and started reeling it in across this wide riffle, above the hole, when I hooked him. There wasn't much room to land him. I lifted him out of the water and got him to stop moving and my mentor gave him one whack on the head and killed him. My mentor had never fished from that spot. All the fish we caught last summer seemed to be in the 10-15 lb range.

38.5 inch B-RUN, MaGill hole in the Clearwater at Orofino. Did not get up to Smithers this year so thats the best I can do. I had a couple of good days on the Salmon but nothing big from that river this year. Had fun.. and that counts for a lot.
