Central banks have tried to manage manipulated economies for decades. If you wanna call that some sort of unethical game you can, but you would AGAIN be wrong. Fixed it for you. Your defense of the market is laughable, especially when you try to convince us that banks aren't unethical. Perhaps you're right and the banks are altruistic, always looking out for the little guy.....honest to boot. Between QE1, 2, 3, etc the total devaluation of the FRN$, loss of the gold standard and market manipulation any notion that this bubble will continue to grow and not burst is ridiculous. What's that old saying? Only the govt. can take perfectly good paper and ink and make it worthless... I've said it before and I'll say it again, you haven't made shi.t until you sell and convert those stocks into something....anything other than the paper they're written on.

Like fishing gear. Mr Vedder should cash out his stock and buy some bass rods.

1. I NEVER claimed bankers were ethical - although some certainly are i.e. Dogfish. In fact, I believe dishonest bankers and lax oversight damn near crippled this country at the end of the Bush administration. I was discussing monetary policy as relates to economic stimulation or restraint, as established by the central banks of the world.
2. I NEVER said this bull market will continue. I do not predict markets. it's a fools game.
3. I have been selling for two years now. Primarily because at my advanced age I may not have time to recoup major losses, should the market take a big tumble. The cars, truck and boat I bought with my profits are very real. Thanks.
My point was only that those who do attempt to tell us what's next in the market have no idea. Nor do I. Remember when the sages told us Q.E. would cause massive inflation? Then when they told us tapering would kill the bull?
This is what I do know, bears follow bulls, and over the last 85 years the market has been a fine place to be for those who invest for the long haul. YMMV, good luck.
Loss of the gold standard? That was when?

Loss of the gold standard? That was when? For all intents and purposes, 1933. Formally, 1971. A very recent event.

I'm in for the long haul...and Dave, I hope that you are in for a "longer haul" than you expect.

Thanks! I have a plan that takes me to 90, but now I'm getting worried. My 1/2 sister turns 95 next May. My dad had eight siblings and all made it to 88 to 104 except the smoker who only made it to 70. I hope you have all you need for as long as you need it. My dream is for the last check I cash to bounce.

Todd referenced that minimum wage in '72 or '73 was equivalent to $22/hr now....I'm sure that is a completely separate issue. lolol

That would be perfect. You seem to live life well....that's what's important. I'll feel sorry for you when you're scrounging farmed Atlantic Salmon for a taste of seafood. Until then I'll look forward to the adventures your grandson and you share, along with some foreign destinations for the hell of it.

Investing in American corporations is whoring out future generations? So are all American investors whoring out future generations? Please explain. You have completely lost me. I always thought that a rising stock market was a sign of increased prosperity for America, thus good for future generations. What am I missing here? Hank, you are projecting again. I have no recollection of ever complaining about corporate profits. In fact I favor elimination of all corporate income taxes.

So glad I don't get my investing advise from a fishing bulletin board! Buy while high, sell while on a low?
