Most of us would just like to know our tax dollars are being well spent. That would change much of the conversation.

A 14 billion dollar light rail system that isn't designed to remove cars from the road. It only pirates riders from the buses that are currently available. A tunnel boring machine that isn't moving and was only decided upon to increase waterfront property values. Etc, etc...

Nobody is disputing that fees and taxes are a necessary funding source for us to live the best country in the world. But, people should be able to question what those dollars are being used for.

Washington probably has THE MOST regressive tax system in the country... Oregon's probably the least. The less you make the more you pay in taxes and fees. If you earn around $20k/year you're paying around 17% in taxes and fees...if you make $300k or more you pay 3% or less....Bill Gates Sr and Jr tried to address this by pushing for an income tax...but people weren't buying. There's a reason billionaires live here...low tax for them....high for you... now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Id love it if half people walking the street in Seattle were billionaires. Just in dollars they are individually paying taxes equivalent to thousands and thousands of people that work a 9-5 for the median wage. These are the people that you want to penalize for living here in Washington?

Wyoming has no inheritance tax and welcomes people with big cash. The do as I say not as I do liberal big shots all have homes in jackson hole so they can pass money down tax free. Prove your there six months a year and your kids can have the same advantage.

The banned user guy obviously pays no taxes and due to the vocabulary etc there's little chance he isn't on assistance from the state paid for by the billionaires he ignorantly hates.

Taxation is by definition destroying liberty. We put up with it because some well meaning, long since dead, people in the 1930s did not have a crystal ball to see that programs with good intentions become larger and more manipulated by people over time. No one in the United States paid individual income taxes before 1913. Then as with bill gates srs promise it was only the very wealthy that would pay. Fast fwd to the present and who bears the brunt of the taxation in the United States today? The middle class. Trusting people (that's all the government is, people) that newly thought up taxes will remain limited to some social class is idiotic when you review the history of such promises.

Also eff you to people that say we aren't as bad a other states so we should feel good. Two (or 49) wrongs don't make a right.

Insults are what people without principles fall back on when they are unable to explain the views they are borrowing from other people without principles. Good luck to you.

So how about this for an idea to pay for hatcheries? At the end of the year you send in your punchcard and a check for the amount you owe. For example, if it costs the state $5.00 for each adult coho that returns and you caught 10 coho, you owe $50.00. Of course the commies would pay a lot and the C&R guys would pay very little . . .

I suspect Doc would end up paying more under that system than he does now.

Instead of insults, or madeup outrage, here are some facts.

1. Washington is #27 in tax burden in the country. Not great, but far from the worse. You'll also note that many of those "great" states in the tax burden chart are being subsidized by those of us who live in the other states...they are the worse "Takers" in the country.

Yeah, that's right...Texas is a socialist state, redistributing wealth from us on the coast to pay for their programs. They're far from the only one, though...

The Socialists in Wyoming are taking from the rest of us, too...along with Alaska and many other of those bastions of "personal responsibility".

2. Washington is also amongst the "least corrupt" states.

Washington gets a B- on "integrity". Again, not perfect...but above average.

Way past Wyoming...which gets an "F". Alaska, Texas, Idaho...those bastions of responsibility again?

They all get a "D-".

3. Washington is a microcosm of that, too...if you live in eastern Washington and bitch about taxes and the like...

4. Don't like the traffic in Seattle? You've clearly never spent any time in...

Atlanta
Los Angeles
San Francisco

...or most any other metropolitan area in the US. I've had the misfortune of driving in all those places, and plenty more, and traffic is far worse in those places.

5. Don't like the weather?

The weather is why we have green things, and rivers that make salmon and steelhead.

Prefer desert? There are plenty of bass and tilapia in Texas calling your name...just don't forget you get to be a Socialist if you move there...but that cuts both ways, most people who whine about "socialism" only whine about it when they perceive they are the ones giving it...they fuckin LOVE getting it.

6. Finally...don't like Washington?

Don't let the door hit your stupid ass on the way out.

It's far from perfect...but it's far better than most anywhere else I've ever been.

It would do plenty of Washington residents some good to remember that...or, like I said, they can move to the awesome State of Texas where you can be the beneficiary of the redistribution of tax dollars that everyone in the Lone Socialist State of Texas gets, fish for tilapia and ditch pickles, and clear brush 200 days a year like Dubya.
