What the hell happened? I advertised the meeting plenty ahead of time. I went to all the trouble to get this meeting rolling and one god damn person shows up! ONE! Eric thanks for showing to the meeting but we both knew that this was going to happen. I guess I was just expecting a little bigger turn out. For all of you members that consistantly bitch, and this happens quite often, just save your breath. I put together this meeting so that everyone could put in their 2 bits so I could take it to the state and get something accomplished. Well I would like to try another meeting but not here in this state! I am just curious on why nobody showed? Everyone told me they were going to show and discuss it and then nobody shows? What the hell went wrong? This [Bleeeeep!] pisses me off more than anything. If your going to bitch about it, actually do something about it instead of sitting there with your thumb up your @$$!!!

Andy Matthews

p.s. Once again I thank you for showing up Eric.

Andy,

Well, here we have another fine example of a lot of very good individuals who, when asked to come together as a group, really suck(i.e. Seahawk defense '99). THIS is the reason I-695 failed, THIS is the reason commercial fish slaughters still take place, and THIS is the reason we, as recreational fisherman, will continue to take the Louisville Slugger right in the brown eye!! When you look at all of the people who fish in this state as a whole, we are the minority. The law abiding, season following, barb crimping, wild fish releasing, honest fisherman aren't even the majority within our own minority(rec. fisherpeople)!!! The majority of the people in this state that purchase fishing licenses(and now pay exactly the same price to only catch trout once a year as we do to fish steelhead or salmon every spare second we have) have never heard of, or can't pronounce most of the rivers you and I treasure. I commend you for your effort, Andy. But, you are now realizing the finality that exists within the fate of our fish runs. You and I have no control. I believe the only hope that is left for us is the second coming of Roosevelt, or someone who realizes that without enforcement of the rules, no matter how many exist, there are no rules. You can have all the bait restrictions, river closures, jetboat restrictions, and catch & release laws that your heart desires, just don't expect a lot of people to even read the regs unless there is a real fear of getting caught. Until then, you can bust your ass trying to make a differance, but it won't.

Jerry,
Thanks for the fine input. You don't have the brains god gave a piss ant! If you don't see a problem with running huge sleds up and down the upper Wynoochee than you need to pull your head out of your @$$ and float the Wynoochee in an tube in the summer at 400 CFS. The meeting was at 7:00- 8:30 plenty of time for people to get there after work.

When I tried to spur a rally at Cascade Locks in early May, for a rightful sportfish quota on the excessive Col. springers that the Indians were getting to net, we got a pitifully low turnout. After hearing this Andy, I am really dumbfounded and at a loss to explain such sportfishermen appathy. Probably also a little chicken [Bleeeeep!] in there too for those afraid to show up in a potentially confrontional atmosphere, even though the potential for some positive resolution far outweighed that scenario. The cliche' "you reep what you sow" sure has been applying to NW sportfishermen - have any of you shortsighted doughballs noticed? - Excuse the words of frustration. Pent up anger venting; about both unfair sportfisher treatment and lack of will to do something positive about it. Thanks for your courage and efforts Andy! - RT

Andy I know how you feel. I felt the same way when the tribes first started netting. I was there on the Puyallup when Marlo Brando and Dick Gregory netted with the tribe. They did it to get the medias attension and they did!!! I tried to get people organized with meetings but hardly anyone would show up!!! So Andy don't feel bad you mean well.

You know the real problem could've been that you had the meeting during the week. A lot of people who fish the Nooch primarily all year (myself being one) live over an hour away. I commend your efforts, but you must put more into your thinking then "I gave plenty of time for people to show up setting it at 700". I'm a UPS driver and usually get in and off the clock around 630pm everynight. It roughly takes me an hour-hour 1/2 to get to the Nooch from home WITHOUT traffic. Then you add rush hour traffic through the Nisqually Flats and you're talking some serious road time. Then add the return trip that night only to be getting up early for work. I'm not making excuses, just reallife does take it's toll. My main reason for not going was simply that....time. It's a shame the locals didn't show up, that's what is disturbing. I attend all the local meetings here in Tacoma/Puyallup (i.e. clam seasons and such put on by the WDFW) since they're easily accessible and get myself home at a decent hour.

All the planning in the world and notice won't help if it's not easily accessible to all. The ones who whine the most will be the ones who'll try the least to correct, that's been a lifelong lesson I've learned. Hopefully next meeting will be more "non-local" friendly. I'm usually down at my Dad's property every weekend on the Nooch so I'm around there on the weekends.

Take care and hope this can fly...

first off I fish the nooch in my sled and in my drift boat, if I am in my sled I do not run above black creek. If you are all so concerned about people using a sled then you should have gone to Andys meeting...Everyone bitches but they do not want to do nothing about it...sorry if I made you guys upset.

Jerry,

The fact you voluntarily run your sled below black creek only is good. For that I respect you and I have no issues with sleds below there in the winter time. Above there is a different story. You are using common sense in an intense fishery.....now if everyone else would just follow suit.

Sleds in the summer should be banned outright because when the river is running 4-600cfs it is too low (summer low). There are more and more guys running sleds in the summer now because they feel that is the most efficient way for them to get to their "honeyhole". This is B.S. because what they don't want to acknowledge is that they are f____ing up everyone elses water so they can fish. I talked to one local sledder last summer at black creek who was totally oblivious to what he was doing to everyone elses fishing (motor and wake putting the fish down). He was having some success but when I asked him if he thought it was appropriate to mess everyone else up so he could fish he just gave me a dumb look like he didn't understand what I was talking about.

Typical!
