I know that this forum is primarily for steelhead and salmon, but given the fact that we are between runs I was wondering if there were any sturgeon fishers out there. I was curious about the oversized fishery below the Bonneville. It's got to be about time for them to be showing up. I understand the salmon and shad factor. Anything going on? I usually fish Illwaco or Trojan and have done very well. I certainly would be willing to swap reports!

I believe its closed to boat fishing from bonniville to beacon rock from may to june you can still fish off the bank tho.Its to protect those big breeder fish that are targeted this time of year(spwaning).I'm not sure of the exact date it reopens you'll have to check the regs. and mine are at work.Sorry !!,there is still a good chance of catching a monster in the river below beacon rock.

Fishing below Beacon Rock is still great fishing for Columbia River marlin. Now is a great time with the arrival of the shad (keep an eye on the dam count) and the spawn. Be warned though!! This is very heavy water - much faster water than down by the coast. Stub rods and 24 - 40 oz of lead. You will also need a breakaway rock anchor and lots of rope. I use 300ft. and sometimes wish i had more. A guy can get into real trouble real fast with one small brain fart!. Fish out of the "Fishery" on the Oregon side where a ramp and bait are available, as swell as a map. And when ya get one of those mothers on.WwoooooooOOOOOOWWW Hang On!!

Having asked for some help on this subect on this board before, and got lots thanks to all of you I thought I would tell you about this weekend. We went out saturday night on the snake near Glenns ferry and fished all night without a bite. Both of us fell asleep and I woke up right at first light. We still had the lines out with pickeled herring as bait. I got up and was putting some stuff away and one of the poles just got slammed ( 8 foot ugly stick heavy ) The tip was clear in the water and line is just smoking off the penn 330 reel. I tryed to grab the pole but with all that pressure on it I could not get it out of the pole holder which is built into the back railing. This fish has taken at least 100 yards of line when it just breaks itself off. I guess there where about a 1000 things I could have done different in that situation, but thats all anal vision (hind site)The plus was that the guy I was with had never been sturgeon fishing and had said several times during the night that he was sure there was no such thing. All the way home he keeps looking over at me and saying "did you see that, I can't belive that, that was wild, I gotta get me one of them poles etc. "
