Tru'dat.

Had a tough day Saturday also, as my little Smoker Craft was getting pitched around pretty good in the East Wind. But made the most of it, kept our heads down and fished until high tide. Doc, Canyonman, Tommy I hope you guys got yours!!

Fished Saturday in the South Channel for 6 bites, landed 3. Lost 2 right at the boat. Windy was an understatement.
Big boats outta Westport made it even more unfriendly, they ran right up thru everyone fishing, instead of running up on the edge of the channel. 4 foot boat wakes with the wind made it hard to even standup, felt sorry for some of the small boats out there. Westport boats didn't enjoy the have to work for them fishing, they seemed very disappointed because they were so used to the lights out fishing they had been having offshore.

Yeah, did you see that twin hull Glacier Bay?!?!? I thought to myself, nice boat, big and roomy for these conditions, big wake too!!! Needless to say, it was a bit bouncy for us little boat captains!!!

See you on the water,

I'm not sure what south channel you were fishing in but there was nothing close to 4 foot anything with or without the wind on Saturday.

Fished Friday in the river. Fish and people were already there for sure. Hooked into a few and this boat left with two nice silvers at the end of the day.

No 4 foot anything, you must of been in one of those big offshore Westport boats, I am fishing out of a 19 footer and at one point we had four 28 feet or bigger boats run past us one right after the other and we definitely had a four foot wake and wind chop.

Well I was in one of those 26' ocean boats and we tried to stay on the north side while running back up hill or down hill during the tides.......can't please everybody......maybe if they didn't close the ocean you wouldn't have seen as many big boats out there......or maybe the smaller boats would feel more @ home up bay or stream.............just sayin I thought for the most part everybody was being pretty good out there on Saturday........We went 13 for 14 & took home 8 ho's one shy of our boat limits. Fun day and weather was pretty awesome for the most part......first time I was involved in some good fishing during a east wind like that.........Good luck,

SZ

I know why all the big offshore boats were out there, most probably had moorage thru the end of the month and they closed the ocean on them. Good ole WDFW raise your limits, keep anything that swims, then close your season short, that made a whole lotta sense.

And so the rain begins.

Trib guys will be VERY happy the next couple days.

Mebbe make a little more room in the bay for us "big boats".

It wasn't bragging, we were just having fun. And from the amount of boats we saw over the next few days it did not bring any extra pressure to the area..... not like the "salmon derby" that occurred last weekend......

King retention is the primary determinant of participation.

Without it, I expect peak traffic of 40-50 boats on a weekend where I fish.

With it, I expect 400-500.

I agree...50 boats scattered over several miles when it's "coho only", or three or four hundred boats mashed in the entire open area when Chinook retention is allowed.

With a zillion coho available everywhere right now it's hard to see many folks spending time/money to travel there to go catch coho, and if you don't have to travel because you live there...well, you're already there wink

This rain will help even more as the fish really push up the river.

Fish on...

Todd

Can't wait for the rain to raise the rivers a bit so hundreds of folks can sit on a hole choked with Kings and POUND on em and kick em back....

Fished the Johns river area Tuesday from 8am-4pm, it was slow, buddy had 4 grabs, I had 3 bites and killed one small one. Not many boats out. I thought the rain would have brought more fish running thru, we did have 2 doubles but landed just the one fish. The bait was pretty sparse compared to previous years but water being 62* does not help.....
