I have had good success with jigs fished by themselves but I keep hearing about people adding shrimp tails to their jigs. Does this really work and what kind of jigs, shrimp, do you use and how do you attach shrimp to the jig hook?

Thanks in advance and remember that life is short...fish hard!!

Shrimp tails work great on jigs. Cut it off and hook it once as it would sit naturally. Smaller tails work better. A brown/orange jig with a shrimp tail is deadly on summer fish, must look like a crawdad.

I've had great success with a Leo's style jig with red beads and a black yarn tail topped with a small piece of prawn meat. Hooked ten summer runs last week with this setup. Give it a try!

Thanks Jigman and B Mac. It sounds like this setup works killer! I figured that it might give me an edge with the high flows right now.

Your "edge" needs to be a little sharper, Saukit2em! You let Big D out fish you on Saturday, although you made him pay on Sunday!

You usually fish them below a float from a foot or more above the bottom of the river.

Parker,

I'll give you props for your two steelies on Saturday, but remember that the days when I am outfished by Dave are few and far between unless I'm stuck with the sticks while Big D is chompin' down pork rinds in the front seat and grabbin' whichever rod gets a takedown. I believe that I got a good chance to prove my point on Sunday at my namesake river. Did I mention that I only needed two casts?
