Thanks to ESPN I'm conflicted.
When the playoffs got down to UO, OSU, FSU, and UA I was disappointed...mainly because I don't give twoshits if any of those four teams ever win a game again, ever. As a matter of fact, I'd prefer it if they don't.
Two months ago I didn't think that Oregon was going to be able to live up to the hype...I thought they had played marginally well against very inferior opponents and not only lost one game, but were not very impressive in several of their wins.
By the end of the season, though, I changed my opinion about that...mostly based on the fact that their defense really turned up the heat, and that their increasingly healthy offensive line was starting to really own the line of scrimmage.
I also thought that their offense would not look as good against faster defenses...let's just say they changed my mind on that quite a bit, too...with good reason.
I think they are in the driver's seat to win on Monday, to be honest.
Can I root for the Ducks?
Well...no, not really. Problem is that I can't root for Ohio State, either...because FuckkUrbanMeyer. 'Nuf sed on that.
Today I have ESPN on in the shop and I'm watching two total dipshits...Brian Kelly and Brady Hoke...tell everyone how OSU is going to kick the Ducks' asses.
Hmmm. Now besides hating on Urban Meyer I have a chance to hate on two other douchebags that I like just as little as him...especially Brian Kelly who I probably dislike more than any other NCAA Div. 1 coach. Fuckk that guy.

I'm just so excited that Phil Knight might get the ultimate reward for his investment in UO sports. He took a team from Eugene, Or and equipped the staff and facilities with all that is necessary to put the program at a winning level. I'm so happy he did it the "right" way, without having unscrupulous recruiters or unregulated camps in his program. This program should be a model for every college team.

The Ducks are fortunate to be playing in this game. Pac 12 officials helped them seal a win in Pullman. The next week they got crushed by Zona. They were missing a few offensive linemen.
Oh well gotta root for the Ducks.

Can't really believe it myself either, but without the 'we smoked it all's, laptop sticky fingers, lines of blow in the parking lot, the 'we don't care, we been to the rose bowl, it's not good enough' on camera douchbaggery's, and the likes, it was hard to hate what Phil knight has bought. Top the toned down antics off with a class act QB like Mariota, and even Beav blood doesn't boil like it used to at the sight of green and yellow.

OSU couldn't get the right defense on the field against a sloooooooow Bama team. They're gonna get run!
Against FSU the officials were from the ACC who did everything they could to slow down the game. How many times did we see the Ducks standing around waiting for the refs. Pretty much every play for those not paying attention. This game has a Big 12 crew who are used to teams being fast, fast, fast!

Long before I finally decided to root against OSU in this game I came to the conclusion that Oregon is going to run them up and down the field, and by the middle of the third quarter will be pouring it on so fast that OSU is going to wish they had ten timeouts.

Because they are the face of the program and University and are receiving free educations to uphold said higher standards and represent the school in a positive light. The average non-athlete student doesn't get their name in the paper for smoking herb.
What a let down for the Ducks players, coaches and fans. I'd kill the guy if I was his teammate. Oregon continues to be their own worst enemy.

I love ESPN, but their love of fantasy football (and when I say "love", I mean "love of all the money they make off of fantasy football") is one of the biggest driving forces behind stupid NFL rules...because game results are far less important than flashy QB/receiver numbers...and their love of the SEC is in many ways responsible for the east coast bias that favors the SEC.
This, more than a lot of other reasons, is why I love seeing a defensive powerhouse like the Hawks assrape the Broncos in the Super Bowl, and be poised to do it again even with "emphasis" on doing whatever they can to handcuff the Legion of Boom with more penalties...and love seeing a National Championship without an SEC team in sight.
I'm not sure what would be better to that end...having no SEC team in the NC, or having it be Oregon v. Alabama and having Oregon assrape Alabama like the Hawks did to the Broncos...but either way I hope it makes Paul Finebaum shutthefuckup and turn his book into one of those laughable self-stroking comic books that politicians love to write.

With the Oregon offense not producing and the D not stopping the run Ohio will take this game. Also not scoring on 2 of the turnovers doesn't help and not taking that field goal in the first half was a dick head move!

Looks like the selection committee got it right. Everyone expected Alabama and Oregon to be playing tonight. OSU took them both out. So TCU and especially Baylor can STFU.
Ohio State looks stacked again for next year. Jim Harbaugh's new gig just became a bit more difficult.

Small and fast will almost always catch a beat down by big and fast. The Ducks didn't learn this lesson in 2010 and they won't win a title until they do. Forget Ezekiel for a moment, Cardale RAN OVER the Ducks Nose Guard. This is generally considered to be a very bad sign. If a 250 lb QB can do that, what's a 6'4" 330lb pulling Guard with quick feet gonna do? The Ducks football style during the regular season is great against good to average teams but falters when they have to play big and fast. The Ducks fast scoring o-style puts way too much pressure on their undersized defense to hold up for a full 60 against elite o-lines. Just line it up; run it straight at em'; wash-rinse-repeat and they fold.
Run the ball, stop the run, win the game. "Cute" and speed alone doesn't cut it. Sorry Ducks Fans - great season anyway. Go find some of those quick footed 6'4" 330lb linemen with all of Uncle Phil's money and start running between the tackles will ya!

Of course, when I was at UW, we went 8-4 lost the Sun Bowl, 7-4-1 and won the Independence Bowl, 6-5 and no bowl.
Then Don James called bullsh!t on that.
My last year we went 8-4, and won the Freedom bowl. The next year, they went 10-2 and won the Rose Bowl and the season after was the perfect season. Unbeaten, 12-0, crushed #4 Michigan in the Rose Bowl, and won the crystal football.
