I've experienced the same thing several times. Rods are in the holders, plugs are working their way down the hole, and SLAM......down goes the rod, only to pop right back up again empty. I'm still experimenting with how to solve this problem. I think moving the hook(s) back further helps with these short, hard hitting fish. It's been my experience that silvers pull this stunt more than Kings do, and running a larger hook further back behind the plug seems to give you a better chance at a hookup with these fish. This is still an experiment in progress, so I don't really have a definite answer for you. Good luck at solving the "slam-n-go". Let me know if you find any solutions.
