I apologize for the truly crappy video. I got all flustered and did an awful job. But here is what happened. While hunting quail in a ravine about 2 miles from the Mexican border, Tye and I came upon these two bucks locked together. One was dead; the other seemed in pretty decent shape. I was miles from the truck and had no tools on me. Not wanting to risk injury while trying to get them apart I was stumped. Then I realized I could probably shoot off an antler and free the still healthy buck. That’s what I did. When the healthy buck held still I got about two feet away with my 20 gauge and l blasted an antler off. It worked! The buck took off in a flash. I kept the antler for a souvenir. Later a local hunter told me both bucks were trophy class. They seemed small to me but theirs are Cous whitetail, and apparently they do not get very big. Again sorry bout the crappy video. http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee206/Surecatch22/Surecatch22077/th_IMG_1064_zpspe8oktqj.mp4

Looking forward to the link as well. I used to work with an old timer that used to tell a story of missing a shot at a two point and clipping it in the antler. He claimed the deer died instantly. He showed me the antler but we all know how old-timers can be.

If any of you know how to convert a video with a mov extension PM me. Ryley has failed so far.
P.S. I shot to antler off the deer that was dead. Probably wasn't much fun for the other one, but . . . .

Unless Bob builds in a Photobucket video embedding extension, it's not going to work.
Just use the dilect rink....which I edited for you.

Whoa - that's a nice sized Coues. They are similar in size to Blacktail in rack and body. Did you give the surviving buck some hearing protection before you shot? Crazy story and nice rescue Dave.

Its working!!!! Thanks Sky Guy Yes, but you're thanking the wrong Admin. See this quote from my reply to you yesterday: Just use the dilect rink....which I edited for you. The keyword being "I". It was working as of yesterday at noon-ish when I fixed it for you. Proof again, this is very thankless work. PS. If and when Bob builds in the Photobucket embedding extension in to the next build of this board software, you will be able to directly embed a Photobucket video in a post - like you can currently do with a Youtube video.

That's cool Dave, you did good. At least one of them got to run off. Sounds like Tye was ready to take care of it for you. How long do you figure the unlucky deer had been dead? I'm sure if you would have contacted a Game Warden he would have given the dead one to you, if it was still good.
I don't know much about Coues deer, but those do appear to be trophy class....
I should get around to posting my deer from this past season...

The dead one had been dead for at least a day. Hard to be sure as it was quite warm out. Yeah, Tye was all fired up and wanted to "help".
A local hunter told me they were both trophy class and if I had shot the live one and had the two mounted in the locked together position they might be worth $10,000. I didn't have a deer tag, didn't want meat from an exhausted animal and wanted the healthy one to have a second chance.

They aren't book bucks but they are close. In another year, the lucky one will be on the last pages for certain. +1 on posting your deer. It's only been a 1/2 year dude. Dave - good call on not killing the lucky one. The lactic acid build up would have made it rubber dog food. You should get those racks scored and estimate in the missing bits.

I would just like to take a second to thank Sky-Guy for all that he does here at PP. You really keep this place going dude, even though you need no recognition or thanks....thanks a lot That admin guy and the gay dude from the TV show LOST just don't have the personality and selfless work ethic that Sky-Guy does.
