Nope.

I don't have the guts to play the market in that capacity, and the big traders have assets the day trader doesn't at their disposal which makes it even harder to be successful.

I'll say this - invest now in 3-D printing companies that are well-positioned. They will be the next Microsoft and Dell Computers type opportunities. It's a future trillion-dollar industry just getting off the ground. The companies that make the printers, the companies that make the cad software, and the companies that manufacture printer supplies should all be very good investments over the next decade.

Guy I work with claims he cleared 60k with house money day trading last year. I've looked into it a couple times in the past, but never got the hang of it. I've got too many irons in the fire to get serious about it anyway. Waiting for the free app that does for me. Have any favorites in the 3d world?

Dassault Systemes, S.A. - DASTY

They make a cad software named SolidWorks.

Of course, I get up and go to work every day, so factor that in. smile

This one had been doing well for a friend of mine....
XONE
http://www.fool.com/investing/general/20...ing-plunge.aspx

http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/stockdetails/fi-126.1.XONE.NAS?symbol=XONE&form=PRSDRQ

Might be a good time to buy.

Open a brokerage account or a self-directed IRA (Fidelity) and dabble.
My friend has a Fidelity self-directed IRA and uses MSN Money to watch and screen stocks.

Talk bout two very different companies. DASTY looks like a buy and hold while EXONE looks like day trader material to me. The fidelity IRA is something I hadn't thought about. Great website, thanks. I'm getting old too quick. Making decent cash but I feel like I really got put the hammer down while the economy is doing ok. Oh, and still find time to stalk some chrome. Peace.

I don't day trade. However I am an investor, and I think that it would be wise to consider that if you attempt to day trade you will be competing with entity's with deeper pockets than you have who have spent fortunes on computer infrastructure and programming, and they are intent on taking your money.

On another point, I think tax advantaged plans are great, however I prefer to use them for low risk assets because capital loss's can not be harvested, and even the most successful investors have loss's.

It is very hard to beat the market consistently. People who are much more clever than I would say that to attempt to do so would be a fools errand.

OK, however I'm up to date on my colonoscopy's.

I did not see my post as an excuse for anything. I handle my affairs just fine, thank you. I'll not be asking anyone for financial assistance as my financial affairs are in order. They are in order because of my conservative saving practices, not overspending, and also my investments have served me fairly well. I see the investing mistakes that I have made as being to aggressive rather than having been too conservative.

In my youth I new a fellow, who sadly is now deceased, he was a pool player who favored 9 ball, he used to tell my, "You pays your money and you take your chances." I never played pool with him for money, I would have been a fool to do so.

I don't think that the OP is wanting to throw his entire savings into day trading.
It's definitely not for anyone, but I can see how it can be interesting.
Like when my partner comes back from lunch and announces, "I just made $5000."

So if it is hard to consistently beat the market, then you had better have your savings in the sofa and not in a managed account.
But we've been over this before.

Kindergartners beat the heads of the largest brokerage houses in picking stocks on a fairly regular basis. In fact, monkeys do, too.

I suppose if you're informed and have the sack, you could do nicely. Staying informed is the challenge.

If your funds are held in cash you will loose to inflation.

Yes, the majority of managed accounts under perform the market.

One possible answer could be a diversified portfolio of index funds.

Day trading is for retirees or those who do it during their day job while they should be working. My buddy bought some Papa Murphy's stock last week , symbol FRSH. It went up like $.75 a share like from 12 to 12.75 something like 6000 shares sold some and kept some. Anyway we took the gals Thursday night to Teatro Zinzanni and he bought his girlfriend like a $70 bottle of champaign, spends an estimated $500, I estimate I spent like $300 that night. Great show though.

I'm just going to sit back and see what my stock portfolio does and check a couple of times a week. Longer term investment that pays dividends.

My wife used to day trade penny stocks back in the 90s and did real well on one stock that went up like 6x and we sold. Spent the money on a Disneyland trip for the family.

I'll never forget the first time I invested in the stock market outside my retirement account. The time was 1997, a Great Uncle from Boise with no Kids grew up with Joe Albertson and got in on the ground floor with their stock. My Mom and Sister split around 800k of company stock that was inside his safety deposit box (Uncle had no Kids) so my Mom and Aunt were the heirs. I got 20k and decided at lunch one day downtown to walk over to Charles Schwab and throw the whole chunk on AOL. The broker Lady said are you sure you don't want to split it up on some Dow 30 stocks? I had been using AOL and was convinced it was going to be the first trillion dollar company. grin

Make a long story short I ended up doing a 10 fold on the stock in the first 2-3 years. Bought it around 38 and rode the high to somewhere around 175 I believe. The only thing missing from the Company was broad band, that was the craze at the time. I woke up for work one morning and turned on CNBC and the breaking news was AOL had bought Time Warner. eek AOL went from being basically a debt free company to taking on 30 billion dollars of debt from buying TW.

The stock was all over the map that day as investors decided what to do. The next day the stock I believe dropped pretty good, so I sold a portion and held the rest for a while longer. I ended up selling it all at around 72 dollars. I was of course kicking myself for not selling it around the high, but the stock ended up falling to around 16ish, so I did pretty good. Buying stocks is easy, the hard part is selling. moose

Wouldn't trade that whole .com experience for anything. I also met my best Bud and fishing Partner at the flagship Tulley's at 4th and Union in 1997 watching the ticker on their TV at lunch break every day. thumbs

It was hard not to make 2X- 3X your money, with (DWTI) a 3X inverse crude oil stock, when OPEC announced last Thanksgiving that they were not going to cut production. There were several things to look out for like the possible emergency meeting that OPEC might call in Feb. or their next expected meeting in June to get an indication if they plan to cut crude production.

Even though it worked out for me as oil spiraled down as expected, I do not recommend this to anybody as crude oil still tries to find a bottom after this past week major price decrease.

Tip--What goes down, especially crude oil, will go back up. smile

I started buying stocks in 2011, I have done pretty well but all my stocks are for the long term. Day trading is a different beast and too involved for me. I would suggest trying other forums that are dedicated to day trading and research as much as you can. I wish you luck

Sat this one out-- on the $60+ to $37.84 plunge on US crude oil over the last couple of months.

Yes, we are getting gouged at the pump regardless of excuses heard about summer blend to refinery maintenance and increase of tax on gasoline.

WOW the Dow was down 1000 pts as the market opened today has recovered to -584 right now.

Picked up a 427 grand sport with 850 miles from a trader that had a margin call on Apple stock in early July. Enjoying 500 hp of fun at 40% of what he paid .

Which house?
Only people that live in Olympia think that is not a sh!thole. Its a palace compared to Shelton, Aberdeen or lesser sh!tholes but It's a sh!thole on par with Tacoma, Vancouver , Everett, Spokane . One clue is every exit/ on ramp is a strip mall with chain stores and chain restaurants . People move to Sh!tholes like Olympia for two reasons they cannot afford to live in nice areas and have to move there to get bigger houses . They even have to slap the kids in daycare because the wife has to work to makes ends meet in a low rent zip code.

So people move to your town because they're old cu,nts wh can't get it up and have to buy their wives cars because they have limp dicks?

Got it.

Show up in Olympia or Shelton, go in a bar and call it a sh!t hole, you fuckin' old pussy.

Then call your dissatisfied wife from Mason General or St. Peters and tell her to come and pick your beaten old ass up.

She won't - because she'll be out with the new car finding someone whose cock works.

Expect her call, Nick.

Limpus has to use a car to put a smile on her face.

Danella uses a couple of 12 packs of Krispy Kremes to put a smile on his wife face. That's how they roll in Oly.

U&T obviously hasn't been more than a block off I5 in his whole life. Take a boat around Olympia and see those million dollar waterfront homes that those poor people had to move to Olympia to afford. Olympia is also full of politicians and fancy ass restaurants for fat cat lobbyists to wine and dine them. You think the politicians are sitting around the buffet at sizzler when they are selling us and our children down the river? But U&T never noticed because he doesn't go any further than spitting distance from I5, because the truck stop parking lot adjacent to I5, where U&T cruises for gay sex is his only destination in Oly.

Give Jaba a break he's from Olympia. He went from living in on of them there million dollar mansions and eating sizzler every night to licking crab off of Hampers pole. Messes with a guy's psyche to fall that far.

Elvis never gets off I-5 because he's afraid he'd get his mouthy ass kicked for being such a cu.nt.

So he hangs out at home and his wife goes off in the new car to find someone to make her come..............probably in Olympia.

You can borrow my flat bed hay truck to take your wife to Krispy Kreme . It's rated to 5 tons and has a PTO lift to roll her out when you get home. I also have a cattle squeeze you can use if you want to make it a date night.

Did you get that truck to haul your ego around with?

Tell your wife to come down - I'll take mine and yours to Krispy Kreme and then make both of them come, since you can't, Limpy.

Anyone with money in the stock market is crazy right now, but it is pretty much too late to get it out.

The trigger event happened about 3 weeks ago which is currently crashing all markets, right now what you are seeing is like a pickle barrel sloshing back and forth with, (day to day volatility), pretty soon the plug is going to get pulled from the bottom.

What happened 3 weeks ago is the United States defaulted on its interest payment to China, 10 cubic tons of gold which they deliver every month, they did not deliver it. SO what was the result? China crashed their own markets, sold off a couple billion shares of US bonds, lowered their currency value by manipulation and then used the money they got from selling the bonds and bought Yaun at a manipulated reduced rate.

China has been waiting for the US not to send payment and it triggered what you are seeing now. US bonds are being sold like crazy right now by the debt holders, (nearly all of them). The US Treasury has to buy them, all that inflation that has been sent out since 1971 is coming back to the United States all at once.

Physical Gold and Silver is pretty much gone from the open market, its pretty much too late to get it in any large quantity. There are still opportunities to get Gold but Silver is way short 6 weeks to get orders and Junk silver is gone only bullion left.

Rich, "10 cubic tons" of gold is about equal to 10 cubic yards, so that would be a stack of gold that is 30 ft. long. 3ft. wide and 3ft. high.

That's a hell of a lot of gold....every month? Not sure the US Gov't has that much..

Total amount of gold ever mined is said to be approx. 170,000 metric tons, and China has been buying the sh1t out of it for years.

On the list of gold producing countries, China is #1 and the US is down about #4. Gold mining in the US has been under assault from environmental groups for decades, and if the production in the US continues to fall, where will companies needing gold for electronics, jewelry, NASA projects, etc. go to get it?

My guess is China.

Yeah - it's too late to get out now because you can't call your broker tomorrow and have your money 2 days later.

Of course, you'll need to take that money and convert it to gold - another fiat currency - so you can eat the gold when it goes really wrong.

The hysterical crap coming out of your mouth is comical, RICH. How 'bout you bet me $500 of fiat currency that we won't be in the tank at Christmas? If the currency is worthless, as you predict, the bet won't actually cost you a dime.

Dan, what, in your opinion, defines gold as a fiat currency?

Buying physical gold is not the most profitable of investments when compared to what could be earned in good investment funds, but it's always good to have some precious metals in the safe.

A fiat currency can become worthless like what happened in Germany during the 1920's. Friend of my parents, long dead now, used to tell me stories of when he was a kid, and they had baskets of coins as toys. Gov't issued money was virtually worthless.

Gold will always have a value, it will always be desired. Without gold you've got no IPhones, wedding bands, electronics and a few hundred other major industrial and private uses.

I'm no survivalist nut, but if the SHTF and your US currency was worthless, you're only way to get needed things would be to steal it, barter, or trade a precious stone or precious metal such as gold or silver.

At least Rich is referring to an actual unit of measurement this time.

As units of measurement go, what the hell is a "cubic ton?" There are short tons, metric tons, cubic yards, and cubic meters, but exactly what does that cubic ton look like? I don't believe I've seen one.

Dan,

It does bother me a bit that you mock me but only due to the fact that your criticism of me is a complete joke and totally ignorant. Have you ever thought about using common sense and actually thinking about and researching what I said? I doubt it because it would show that everything you ever thought about life and the way things are is completely wrong.

The Idea you live by I gave up long ago, I saw the writing on the wall and started to "HEDGE" myself for the coming events.

Think "sevens", we are approaching another significant one on 9/13/2015. 9/11 and the 08 crash were significant "sevens" you know in the 08 crash that the stock market dropped 777.777 points which was actually exactly a 7% drop. Do you think that these things are of coincidence? I definitely do not.... think "Shemitah", 9/11 and the 08 crash happened on or right around the "Shemitah". Do you know what "Shemitah" is? Most probably do not.... It has to do with the forgiveness of debt, its on a 7 year cycle.

Oh wait, you guys don't believe in anything let alone anything to do with "God" or "Religion".

I meant Metric ton, even I have a brain fart every now and then.

Its easier not to acknowledge the message and to mock the messenger instead.

The specific details are not all that important anyways. What happened is important.

I wont deny that I am indeed different, I have always gone my own way, made up my own mind about things. Never quite fit in since I was a kid, always popular, friends with everybody but always drummed to my own beat.

I have never compromised on what I thought was the right thing, even to my own detriment. I have been this way my whole life, kinda like a bull in a china cabinet when I was younger, but now I pick my opportunities.

It's easy to label you crazy because of the crazy sh!t you say.

The Dow lost over 20% of its value between 07 and 09. It didnt go down 777 points, it went down by more than 6000 points.

Then guess what happened? It gained it all back plus a couple thousand points.

You're pulling bullsh!t numbers out of your ass because YOU havent done any research except at the whack-job websites you've obviously been reading with a bunch of drivel about 7's and crap like that.

The crap you spout is the same crap loonies have spouted for generations. It's not new, it's not stuff that hasn't been heard before, and it doesn't make you informed.

Is the bet on or not?

I bought the rights to Sasquatch photo from Rich G so he can't post it here. Turns out that it was just a topless Rosie O'Donnell and now she is paying me not to publish the paparazzi photo Rich G took. Trust me, you don't want to see it anyway. Before I saw it, my hair was normal, but look what the shock of that photo has done to me. Rich G had to see that in person, no wonder it pushed him over the edge.

Zeroes and ones show up a bunch, but I never learned about the sevens. I was told that the four is similar to the Chinese character for death. Find myself rounding up to five just to be safe. Btw, I'm going short on a major bank, wish me luck.
