Heard someone wrapped it up under the lower bridge, apparently nobody was seriously injured.

2nd UPDATE — A West End fishing guide and his client escaped serious injury when a submerged log beneath the Mora Road bridge over the Sol Duc River near Leyendecker Park west of Forks caused their drift boat to capsize about 11 a.m. Saturday.

The guide, Roice Miles of Forks, was pulled from the water by other steelhead fishermen near the confluence of the Sol Duc and Bogachiel rivers.

His client, initially identified as Jim Howard, was Jason Howard of Olympia. Howard was able to swim to shore. He reportedly had a slightly injured hand.

The boat and all their gear were recovered, according to Sgt. Jim Dixon of the Clallam County Sheriff's Office. Officers from the LaPush and Forks police departments also assisted in the incident.

Submerged logs can be very dangerous to boaters, especially when a river is somewhat colored.

Photo by Lonnie Archibald shows the submerged log beneath the bridge on Saturday.

That log has been there for...going on three months? It's survived a few pretty good high waters, even.

Time to get it drug out of there.

Fish on...

Wonder if roice is a "local" or just a forks resident living in a hotel room. Have other people just been running it or what?
I figured I would just get out early and walk it down river right thru the boulders and hop back in under the bridge..rowing back up isn't that hard and it's a small price to pay to stay safe.
Glad everyone is okay tho and recovered their gear

That log is huge! It's been a crummy right row show since it's been there. Surprised anyone would consider going left?

That area is just a bad spot, correct me if I am wrong but it was a river right show for some time in the late 80's as well, though I thought it was from something other than woody debris.

It looks like the problem is the concrete column.

What kinda of engineer would do that?

It was the government agency who wouldn't spring for a clear span's fault.

Must not have been a local. Those out of towners are always screwing things up.

I'm sure not an engineer but I'm thinking cost has something to do with it.

Wynoochee crossover bridge has the same type of pillar, right where the flow and "lots of wood" gets hung up every year. Wynoochee, old bridge at Black Ck. also had a old metal pillar, while not in the middle of the river, each year would have again lots of everything caught......new bridge has NO PILLAR, so someone learned something. Lower Wynoochee, 2 bridges with a pillar in the river.....yep causes problems there.

Thanks for whomever, posted the picture....I can see why that log would cause a problem.....
