Question for you Skykomish fishermen or any others familiar: How long does it take (on average) to drift from Sultan to Monroe? I'm thinking I can do it after work in the late afternoon, but just want to make sure.
B. Gray - your old sticks work great! When are we going? Tks - Mark.

If you want to fish at all you're looking at about 6 hours. Good luck.

Howdy,
For a after work type drift you can just cut it in half by starting or finishing at the Ben Howard launch. That way you can relax and fish.

Sultan to Monroe is a full days fishing. If you only have a few hours I'd do Ben Howard to Monroe, you can spend 2 hours in that first section if there are any fish around then you have "the stumps" and Buck Island after that. If your going to be moving a lot then fish Sultan to Ben Howard or "Two Bit" to Monroe. Another one that people tend to pass up is Ben Howard to Tualco, thats a good 4-6 hours even if you fish it moderately.

Thanks, guys. I'm familiar with the Sultan launch and the lower take out in Monroe (Lewis St?), but not familiar with where Ben Howard is. Is it hard to find?

I usually bank fish the Sky when I do go, so I'm not familiar with all of the launches.

Tks - Mark.

fishrmn,

it's really easy to find. Just go across the Lewis st. bridge heading S. Ben Howard rd is just past the bridge on your left. Follow Ben Howard rd for about 10 min. The boat launch is just at the bottom of your first big incline in the road to your left. Hope this helps, good luck. Be sure to drop us a line and tell how you did!! Fish on!

Beezer; (or anyone)
You mentioned two bit hole. Can you describe how to get there? Do they still allow camping? I have never even heard of Tualco. Where is it?
What's happening up at Reiter?
Is there enough river to drift from high bridge?
Thanks In Advance for anything you are willing to share. I really appreciate all your info on the Sky.

Brian - tks for the directions. Of all the rivers I fish, the Sky still haunts me. I lost one from the bank, but have yet to get my first steelie here. I usually fish the Nooch, Satsop, Chehalis, Cowlitz, etc., so I don't spend a whole lot of time on the Sky. Sure is a beautiful river, though!

I'll report back with my results. I just plan to drift fish eggs. Don't have the patience for pulling plugs. Maybe I'll beach the boat at some holes and run a float/jig through, too. Thanks again to all!

Fishguts I believe 2bit is closed for the summer because people were living down there and making a mess. I'm not sure if its locked or not, this is second hand info. As for Reiter fished it opening day watched a few fish caught. The crowds weren't to bad still quite a few people. The high bridge float down should be ok tell you start getting blow 5 feet. Good luck.

Jeff, To get to the Tualco, head towards Duvall from Monroe past the Ben Howard Rd. (on the left) to the next right (don't know the name). Follow that road through a couple of corners and small straights, when you come to a 90 degree corner to the left a side road continues straight ahead where the main road turns left. Follow the side road (straight) to the next 90 degree corner, Tualco parking (kind of primitive) is right on the corner. Been a long time since I have been there, about 2-3 miles from the hiway between Monroe and Duvall

Good luck,

Doubletake

Fishguts, Doubletakes directions to Tualco are good, remember you'll need a long rope or possibly 4 wheel drive for this one as it is fairly steep and sandy. Two-bit is closed in the summer and will probably open in the fall. This launch is not marked and is accessed through a private driveway. It puts you in just below the Taylor hole and actually costs eight bits now.
