Woman.....fish???????? Those 2 words don't usually don't go in the same sentance. Though I do know one chick that is seriouly addicted to steelhead fishing (too bad I'm 19 and she's 31)!!! And she's not half bad looking either. If any of you are interested I will give you her email address...hehehehehehehe. I did see a chick fishing on the Icicle for springers that was my age though. Too bad I didn't have time (or the balls) to get her phone number. I have never in the past, or will in the future, reject a girl that wants me to take them fishing. Hey.......if there are any young (under 21) chicks out there that want to go fishing...................

I have spent alot of time reading this BB without joining, cause grumpyr is already on, but this time I had to join in. If you are having a hard time finding a gal who likes to fish, find one that doesn't mind if you do. Trust me, we are out there. After being married to an avid fisher/hunter for 21+ years, I am going to learn salmon fishing this year. In all the years, I have spent almost every birthday alone because I was born during opening week of deer season. I accept this because I married an outdoorsman. In fact, I often encourage him to go fishing because it makes him happy. But, on the other hand, you have to be willing to give some too. Don't whine when she wants to go do something she considers fun. That way you both win.

snow white is right, My wife is most of the time supportive of when I fish. She even listens to me ***** when I come home empty handed. My problem is that I take it to far. Any moment I have open I want to fish. I know this annoys her. I would be pissed if she was gone all of the time painting or something. Even though she was alone. The point thing works.... Help do something she wants done. Go out on a nice date, do some things together, then use up those points!!! and hit the river!

There are plenty of woman out there that truly love fishing. My boyfriend hooked me on it about four years ago, and now I go every chance I get...with ot without him. In all honesty, it started out that I just wanted to see what he was found so enticing about fishing and at first had no real interest in it myself. But after a five day fishing trip to Canada, the first fish I caught was a 4 pound rainbow and I was hooked (so to speak). So even if you find a lady that doesn't like it intially, she may find that she can't live without it once she tries it. Good Luck!!

Kev,can I use some of you're points,I'm running a little on the short side...again My wife was raised by an outdoorsman so she is a real trooper,it took her the longest time to comprhend C&R though now when I bring home the hatchery Brat she's in shock, I hate when she tells me to bring home dinner...don't put that kind of pressure on me They do keep track of points ------------------ Row Quietly and fish a Cataraft }<<(('>----<'))>>{ Release all Wild Fish

You KNOW that sooner or later I'd HAVE to join in this conversation...being one of the fishing loving women!
I'm on the water 10-12 hours a day, four to five days a week! I fish the WHOLE TIME! I don't know what it IS about it, but it's the best thing...errr...check that...ONE of the best things I've done in my life! (The other is PRIVATE!) It's the first thing I've done for more than two weeks that doesn't BORE me!!! I'm always learning something!
My husband doesn't have the slightest interest in what I do regarding fishing, what can I say! Supportive??? Yes! Interested??? Not even close!!! And on I fish! As someone said...it's a NEED, not a want! It's therapy, exercise, friendship, provision, peace, order, recreation, nature and beauty! What more could a woman...OR man want???
Your girl and you will find each other...I HAVE to believe that! SOMEDAY, SOMEHOW, I have to believe that we will all have the opportunity to meet our soulmates! Then, it's up to US!
Hope everyone's well and having a wonderful time on the water!

Well Snagly, sorry to say I'm not sharing. She's all mine.
BW01, do I know you? You almost perfectly described mine and my ex wifes' relationship. Except I didn't let her completely cut fishing off, but she took alot of it away. I'd have to say you're not totally right on your fisherwoman point. My ex was showing her dislike for fishing pretty quick, but never voiced it. My girlfriend now wants to go alot, I just don't have the time between kids, people graduating, and birthdays this summer. I didn't meet her on the river, but she's more enthusiastic about fishing then any of my other girlfriends were.
Flyguy, just keep looking. I'd say put a personals ad out, but that can be disastrous also. You'll be finding more women looking for a husband then a fishing partner. So we go back to the "let's be an avid fisherwoman so he marries me". So BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!

To tell you all the truth, I think it is sort of funny that you are even having this conversation. My boyfriend takes me fishing all of the time, and I love it. All of my friends (girls) want to try it at least once, and I THINK that if they have a good experience...then, well you think they would be hooked, right?
When I was little, I used to fish for little fish (bullheads, flounders, perch, etc.), but then Chris brought me to love steelhead and salmon fishing! Although I seem to have a problem catching fish, I have caught SOME, so that gives me hope and I go as much as I can.
If you all need a gal to fish with, I think there are some around at schools or work that maybe haven't gone before, but would LOVE it as soon as they tried...I know I did.

HOOK ME UP WITH YOUR FRIENDS!!! Most girls I talk to think fishing is a waste of time. The girls down yer way must be different! I'll gladly take any of your friends fishing if you two run out of room in your boat. Just tell me when and where and I'll be there.

Flyguy,
It's a crying shame my name isn't Mrs. Robinson! Take heart, there are TRUE fishin-chix out there--I know because I am one and so are several of my friends and many acqaintances. It's funny how most of them have husbands or boyfriends who don't want anything to do with it until the fish are cleaned, cooked and laying on a dinner plate next to the green beans and 'taters!
Just like flyfishing you have to exercise some patience--fishing is a sport long dominated by men, even though the first fishing book was written by a woman--Dame Juliana Berners in 1496! And it is only recently that the industry and men (basically the same thing)are realizing and ACCEPTING the fact there are many women that have the desire and the need to be standing in freezing water looking for the big kahuna steelhead lurking below and not the big kahuna engagement ring! Kudos to women flyfishing pioneers like Maggie Merriman and Joan Wulff who were out there competing in a man's arena for so long and who made it OK for women to enjoy the sport of fishing! I almost gave up the first time I went into a Seattle-based outdoor sports shop 7 years ago to get some information and fishing gear--the store clerks preferred to swap stories with some macho-bubba in a camo cap at the other end of the counter than to ring up my armload of gear and answer my questions. I left empty-handed and pissed to the nines but eventually found another shop that treated me very well, and I've been hooked ever since!
Things have improved vastly since then, just look at the explosion of women-oriented fishing products and programs that are offered--the sport is attracting more female followers than ever! Hang in there fly-guy, just because you haven't bumped into any "fyshin gurlz" out on the river doesn't mean we don't exist, or that there aren't women who would like someone to introduce them to The Curse. Just don't be a butthead like the guy who marched up to a long-time woman flyfisher I know and demanded to know how he could MAKE his girlfriend want to like to go fishing!!!
Sorry this does not give you an easy answer, but I hope it will help you understand why there just aren't alot of women fishers out there yet, and that you'll be courteous and encouraging to the ones whose paths you do cross (and you just never know if that "older" woman has a younger sister, daughter or niece who likes to fish!). And you should NEVER assume that just because a woman is out there fishing, she's out there to land a man--usually that's the farthest thing from our minds, we're out there for the fun and challenge of fishing same as you, and sometimes even to forget about you!
I must admit I was a bit dismayed to read all the bait-and-switch posts on this thread. Unfortunate incidences to be sure, but I would think there aren't that many women around who are able to deceive men into thinking they like fishing that much for long enough to get a wedding ring wrapped around their finger. If someone strategically plants a flyrod tube in their car during the dating phase and fishing is that important to you, better be sure they can string-it-and-fling-it before you get down on one knee!

You know, I have been graced that the women in my life have been somewhat of outdoor people. My ex is a through and through farmgirl. Sheep, cows, the whole bit. Tried hunting a few times, didn't like it though. The biggest problem was she would not trust me. I never did anything to break the trust, but she couldn't accept the fact that I did other things that she didn't enjoy. My best fishing and hunting bud is a girl. She is one of the most incredible people I know. Loves to get in the thick of things. Not afraid of any mess. Now if she will just dump the ass she's with, she can spent more time on the water and in the woods. There are many girls out there who have at least had some exposure to the "elements" so to speak. Like Dad use to take the family fishing etc. Us men just need to rekindle the spark in them. I just hope one finds me soon, or I may become a hermit. ------------------ Just because I look big, dumb, and ugly, doesn't mean I am. It means I can stomp you for calling me it!

to me its a VERY hard disision, like everbody said , teach her to fish and really enjoy it and expect her to be pissed when you want to go only on a trip by yourself ect. , on the other hand if she don't like it, it would be hard to explain why you are always out fishing and not with her!.

Or if your like me, i spend so much time at work and then i go places on weekend, my wife is always mad at me and it hardly makes any diference. It is just what time of day she is mad at what part of me for not being around the house or going places with her. She likes one thing, i hate it, i like something else and she hates it. Why opposets attract each other no one knows. elmtree (woody)
