Was Priest the first heavy metal band?

Not musically,I would say black Sabbath gets that distinction as they were the first band to use the heavy down tuned guitars and the dark subject matter. But I think as far a having the look,sound and conceptualism of a heavy metal band Priest would be it. The certainly did the studs and leather and spikes first
