Does anyone know if the rumor is true that the Snake River dams above Lewiston will start holding back water much earlier this year than the usual mid Octber date?

Nothing printed to that affect. They will begin to fill due to reduced power demands but nothing out of the norm.

I'll plan for latter in October. It should be a good year and hopefully the Rhonde will be over 50 degrees this year to keep the crowds fishing over there.

What you're hearing might be related to something in store for the end of September. For the purpose of scientific studies, Idaho Power is reducing the outflow from Hells Canyon Dam to 5,000 cfs Sept. 27-30. That will leave between 9,000-10,000 in lower Snake above Lewiston. Considering the Snake at Heller Bar (mouth of Grand Ronde) usually runs around 20,000 this time of year, it's going to be reeeaaallly low.
