Kalama;
If I come all the way down there, I'm sure as hell fishin! How about a report? Is it safe to put my big ass eastside driftboat(18') in the lower part of the river (or am I gonna git snagged?) If I put in down low there would you just row back or go on out into and down the BIG river? I see one take out down below the Kalama on my gazateer.
We are working on getting a 7.5hp 4 stroke honda on the beast (affectionately called FishGuts ) I'm not sure if she will be ready this weekend or not.
Wherever I fish, or camp, I make it a point to pickup trash. It always seems there is plenty.
Where would you recommend for an overnighter (tent'n it)?
Thanks for your effort in regards to the clean up and for all of the information you have provided on the Kalama.

Fishguts come on down. I have been fishing the river quite a bit and have had good results. You can put in at the launch west of I5 on the fishermans loop ( first left after you go over the train tracks on Kalama river road.) I put in there and just row down river to some of the holes. After fishing I just row back up it's frog water and a easy row. You can also row out to main steam Columbia and get back with out to much work. A good place to camp would be Rainbow Park they just reopened it ( $14.00 a night) can also fish there. I think I may fish that AM also before the clean up. I would be glad to show some of the good spots. Not that they are hard to figure out. Hope to see you there.

Kalamabama,

Where are you planning to fish and what time early a.m. on the 16th. Maybe I could hook up with you for a little fishing prior to the cleanup, if it would be O.K. Tad.

Well folks, still planning on coming down Saturday am.
When and where will you good folks be dropping in lines. I have been here 3 times and only have gotten my shrimp bags bottoms bitten off by some wary king's or steelies.
I plan on being in around 5:30/6:00 am, if i get out and moving by 3:00am. That is unless my wonderful wife does not put a k-bosh to things during the week.

Unless they mandate work again this weekend,
I`ll be there, won`t know about the overtime issue untill Thursday though.
Fishguts,
if all goes well, maybe we can wagon train
it down there and split the cost of a campsite.

Dear Friends;
I am planning to depart Ballard at around 4pm Friday afternoon, if not earlier. I will not be coming back until Sunday afternap. I will be heading for Rainbow Park, Dragging Fishguts with a 96' Blue Bronco.
I am looking forward to fishing the lower part of the River. I have two open seats, and will gladly trade a ride for any information on tactics and places. Just bring your own life jacket. I've only got one)
I intend to meet Kalamabama, trash bag in hand, at Modrow at 9. I might put in there and just hole up for the morning, or do you think a drift down might work out?
As far as tackle/bait:
Float and eggs?
Sand shrimp / corkies / yarn?
Spinners?
Plugs?
I have a little of everything, so whats best?

I am looking forward to meeting you all.
Jeff "Fishguts"

PS Please feel free to e-mail me if you are looking for a ride.

Hey fishgut's, i don't know the river very well as i have only been there 3 times above modrow bridge at the state parking lot and the red barn. But if you still got room on saturday i would sure like a ride on the fishgut.

I should be down sat. am somewhere around 5:30-6:00 am at modrow bridge parking lot. Hopefully i get my s10 fixed before then, just blew the rear differential today.

Just happen to work for a very good automtive repair shop, what luck, now if i can get all the pieces and together in time.

I can be there early enough to fit anyone's plans, if we can put something together, but I'm a little limited after. I have to be back in Tacoma by about 6 pm, so I need to be back on the road by about 4 pm. If we can work something out, that would be fun. I don't know a whole lot about the lower river, but sure would like to learn. Tad.

PS Elmtree, please e-mail me and let me know what your plans are.

Kalamabama;

Fishguts the river is low but there is one good deep hole between beginers hole and Modrow that I would like to try to get to by boat. I am on my way to go check it out right now. I will post the results this evening. If not the lower river should do well.

T dodge I have room on my boat for you. I will post where to meet after I go look at the river above Modrow.

Look forward to meeting you all.

Kalamabama;
Appreciate the offer of a ride on your boat. I am bringing Fishguts even though I didn't get the motor cut in yet, nor the registration. I have got an e-mail from Elmtree, and it sounds like he's got a seat on Saturday. That still leaves one on my boat, so if you can put us on a spot where we might find some fish/trash we will sure appreciate it. I'm still plannin on being at RP sometime friday evening.
I hope you have gotten some Fish this evening and I'll be looking for a new post in the morning.

PS Maybe Bob will send me my hat in time for this weekend!

Took a look at the river above Modrow this evening it is real low. It may be hard to drift and get to Modrow by 9:00 AM. I think I will hit the lower river on Sat. A.M..I will drop the drift boat in at the launch on the west side of I5 at some time between 5:30 and 6:00. Th9is way I am sure to get to Modrow at 9:00. Fishguts I will stop by and say Hi on friday.
T Dodge come to the launch we can all fish the AM before the clean up.

In my mind I'm already there!

Tackle suggestions?

I just checked the fridge and found some ancient eggs. They look OK, but I didn't take the lid off. (I can wait for that!) They were cured with Procure, sometime in the past...

See You Friday!

We have been using warts and blue fox spinners in the lower river and doing well. the Upper river may be better with eggs. I have some good eggs I will share if your turn out to be bad.

Well it is getting kind of scary, no rear end yet and no bonus check to pay for the trip. Hope things inprove friday, looks like a late night at the shop busting knuckles to get my S10 back on the road.

Fishgut's, still trying to get down there to hook up on Saturday am, hoping i get my bonus money to pay for my needs while down there, or else i will end up sitting at home.
You know, gas, food and equipment i may forget to bring with. No problem if the S10 is running, i always carry everything in the back i could possibly need, except for fresh bait, get's kind of smelly after a week or so without a cooler or refrigdarator. Some strange reason the truck has this slight pungent odor everytime i open the door after being closed on warm day's.

I'm planning on doing some fishing in the lower river early and being at the clean-up around 9:00am.

I'm not a drift boater but it seems as though the river is a bit low to be boating. I can easily reach any hole between Modrow and the RV Park Hole with my chest highs. I'll be throwing eggs along with spinners. I haven't done very well on the coho this year but I nailed a nice 30lb Chinook buck on eggs last week. There are still some nice fish moving into the river. The lower river could be productive if the tide is low on Saturday morning.

Also, the WDFW fish trap is located a stone's throw from Modrow bridge. If you guys wanted to take a break around 10:15, they usually show up with the truck to empty the trap around 10:30 or so. They try to maintain the same schedule so anyone interested can watch. I've seen them empty it twice. It's an interesting operation. See ya in the morning.

NO PARTS, NO MONEY, NO SHOW!

Damn parts peole, ordered the rear end for my S10 3 days ago and it finally was ready to pick up this pm and we had no one to go get it. Also did not get my bonus money.

Please excuse me me to fishgut's and the rest, i was so hoping to be done there and meet all of you i can hardly believe my bad luck.

Fishgut's, i will be sorely missing taking a ride in old fishgut1 and trying for some the nice fish that are moving up and down the river with you. But never fear, i still have an outside chance to be down by clean up time, if i can beg borrow or steal some gas money and brng my Ford Aeorstar. Wife won't let me load it up with fishing gear as someday if it ever gets cleaned out we are going to sell it.

Anyone looking for a 1987 Ford Aeorstar, 3.0l rebuilt automatic, full power with digital dash and gauge, seats 9, tinted windows, a/c does not work. new tires.

Just kind of wondering why none of you kalama locals mentioned that the rainbow park campground was bought out by the ymca and was shut down? Went there to meet fishguts on Friday and it was closed, lots of fish in that river right now though, I was pleasantly suprised, BUT, the next time a clean-up is planned, one of you locals best have a tent spot out in your back yard..*heh-heh*
Sorry I didn`t get a chance to meet any of you guys but that sorry excuse for a campground, Camp Kalama , (joke) has had nothing but problems with thieves, (apparently what they called gypsies have been coming through at night ripping off campers) and I didn`t have any way to really secure my gear being there in an open bed truck and after they said to secure your stuff I was pretty paranoid about leaving my gear back at that camp.

Fishguts.,
check your messages once in a while, tried calling you a couple of times, left one message, I called my wife from camp Kalama and had her call you from, waited about an hour and checked to see if you had called back, maybe next time.
