Is the setup the same as with a corky (lead and leader)? Do you drift it the same, or should you be actively reeling it in?

As always, thanks for the advice.

I rig with splitshots above or a little pencil lead with a double swivel (similar to a corky) The key is to keep the DN moving - pick up the rod tip and work the spoon a bit. It try to go as light as possible for best results

I use the second to the smallest nite and use a sliding sinker above a swivel. Below the swivel I would go as long as you can cast, maybe 6-8 feet of leader. Drift fish it through the holding area, supended is OK. If your in a boat and a larger hole, a real slow retreive at the end of the drift. Your not going to get a "take the rod out of your hand" take like spinners or plugs. Feel anything funny pull the trigger.

If your on the bank, I suggest casting out as far as possible upstream at a 45 deg. Get your spoon down and moving slowly across the bottom, vary retrieve speeds. Use the least amount of weight as possible, the spoon needs to flutter naturally in the current.

When your in a boat, I get 80% of my silvers heading downriver. Position your boat far above holding water. The downriver trolling will keep that d'nite fluttering just above the bottom, thats what them silvers like. Troll just fast enough downstream through holding water to make your boat go just a hair quicker then the current. Remember on some tides the river will be actually flowing in reverse, so check your tides before you go. Use maybe 1 or 2 split shot about 5 ft. up line from your d'nite. I like to use the copper/brass d'nites on sunny days, or chrome/red on overcast days.

I hope this helps.

Never ceases to amaze me -- how helpful and generous with their knowledge most of the people on this board are!

Ok...i understand what is being said about trolling downstream....my question is: How do you identify "holding water?"
