The Big Champ v. the Pac champ in the Rose Bowl. That's so cute .

The Rose Bowl gets the highest ranked team out of the Big and Pac which did not go to the playoff's. That's UM in the Big (they will not fall below either PSU or UW tonight) and the winner of the Pac (or USC if Wa eeks into the playoff's).

In short OSU is in the playoffs after sitting on their asses this weekend and UM is in the Rose Bowl also after sitting on their asses this weekend.

NO. The Rose Bowl is obligated to take the HIGHEST RANKED Big and Pac team not in the playoff's. So if Michigan is ranked 5th and whomever wins the Big Saturday is ranked 6th then Michigan is in.

So you don't have to win a conference championship to go to the playoff's but you do to go to the Rose Bowl. Well at least the Rose Bowl has a clue!!

The bowl projections I see all have UM going to the Orange Bowl, since they can't win the Big 10

Latest CFB Playoff Rankings: Alabama, OSU, Clemson and Washington. The committee did right by the Dawgs and no two loss teams are currently in contention (as it should be).

Some on here need to remember that the playoffs rotate around the New Years Six: Rose, Sugar, Orange, Cotton, Fiesta, and Peach. This year the it's the Fiesta and Peach. The National Championship is NOT played in any of the NY 6. It is its own bowl and has an "at large bidding process" for cities to compete for the hosting rights (just like the Super Bowl).

That being said, because the Rose bowl is on an off year, the HIGHEST ranked Big 10 and Pac 12 team NOT ALREADY IN THE PLAYOFFS gets the nod. It DOES NOT have to be the actual conference winner that plays in the Rose Bowl. It's up to the Rose Bowl selection committee at that point and they have the option to select the highest ranked team, even if they don't win their conference. It is extremely rare that this happens, but it does and can (Nebraska & CU 2001 as a close example). Hell, Michigan can still go to the Rose if neither Wisconsin or Penn State jumps them in the rankings after the Big 10 title game. It won't happen, but it could. That being said, the winner of the Big 10 won't jump into the top 4 now unless somebody loses. No 2 loss teams allowed! Washington takes care of business and they are either in the Peach or the Fiesta.

I will cop to being really surprised and fantastically excited about the Dawgs' #4 ranking!

That doesn't really require an article or a prognostication. The #1 thru #4 teams are all favored to win, and the #4 team plays the #1 team in the Peach Bowl, and those teams are Alabama and Washington.

Without any of the top four losing it's pretty much locked in right there, with Clemson and Ohio State playing each other in the other playoff bowl.

Well....its not totally, totally locked and crazy things happen. If Wisconsin beats the crap outta Penn State (like 50 - 3), they could jump 2 spots over Michigan & Washington. I highly, highly doubt that will happen, so there should be no more major worries. Win out and the Dawgs should get in. And the Dawgs want to root for Penn State as the lower of the two Big10 teams.

Like I said to Stam...beat CU and the bitching will start about having to play Bama. My Spartans got to play Bama in the first round last year. It is NOT fun.

I agree that the Tide is the cream of the crop, and should rise to the top...but if there are any defenses that can stop them, the UW has one, I think they match up pretty well.

For Washington to win it all, they will have to beat CU, then Bama and then Clemson or OSU (or whomever else, if there is a major screw up). That's a tall, tall order. Buckle up the chin straps boys and hold onto yer butts.

Regardless of how it ends up, Washington has already had a hell of a year. To make the playoffs in year #3 with a 3rd year coach is extremely impressive and something to be proud of.

You don't want that guy coaching your team. He's an opportunist just like Saban and screwed over CSU big time before skipping out to Florida. He's only been there two years and is already thinking of jumping ship. Plus he's kinda douche.

Poor Duckies. This will set the program back a few years, unless Uncle Phil really busts open the wallet. Its expensive to make mistakes. 1/2 the recruits will jump ship and they have zero real QB's on the roster. The Dawgs should rule the northern roost for a while.
