The loudest noise is coming for Florida coach Jim McElwain. Plus he's kinda douche. Sounds like a perfect fit in San Francisco if Chip leaves Fish on... Todd

Helfrich isn't really much of a douche...but continuing the string from Harbaugh to Kelly with McElwain would be a very continuous line of douchebaggery.
I'd say he's a pretty good fit at either, thanks for the heads up.

When both programs are giant vaginas, a douche would fit into either one rather well. The Ducks should just go beg Scott Frost to come back. Or maybe not...I want him back home in Nebraska after Riley retires or dies.

Latest CFB Playoff Rankings: Alabama, OSU, Clemson and Washington. The committee did right by the Dawgs and no two loss teams are currently in contention (as it should be). Some on here need to remember that the playoffs rotate around the New Years Six: Rose, Sugar, Orange, Cotton, Fiesta, and Peach. This year the it's the Fiesta and Peach. The National Championship is NOT played in any of the NY 6. It is its own bowl and has an "at large bidding process" for cities to compete for the hosting rights (just like the Super Bowl). That being said, because the Rose bowl is on an off year, the HIGHEST ranked Big 10 and Pac 12 team NOT ALREADY IN THE PLAYOFFS gets the nod. It DOES NOT have to be the actual conference winner that plays in the Rose Bowl. It's up to the Rose Bowl selection committee at that point and they have the option to select the highest ranked team, even if they don't win their conference. It is extremely rare that this happens, but it does and can (Nebraska & CU 2001 as a close example). Hell, Michigan can still go to the Rose if neither Wisconsin or Penn State jumps them in the rankings after the Big 10 title game. It won't happen, but it could. That being said, the winner of the Big 10 won't jump into the top 4 now unless somebody loses. No 2 loss teams allowed! Washington takes care of business and they are either in the Peach or the Fiesta. Were did you get your info as both articles I posted (One from the Pac 12 & one from the Big 10) state different. They take the conference champion unless that champion is 1-4.

Yea I'm still confused??
They have UM in the Orange this morning stating they are not avl for the Rose without a conference championship. But who the hell knows.
Is it Friday yet? Beat CU and we'll see where things fall but not worth worrying about the playoff 4 until Saturday night!
Ducks are idiots for firing Helfrich. Unless they luck into another lightning in a bottle from a small school this will set them back a decade.
Finish by beating CU!!

Where did you get your info as both articles I posted (One from the Pac 12 & one from the Big 10) state different. They take the conference champion unless that champion is 1-4. You are correct. I just looked it up in the 2016 - 2017 Pac 12 Handbook. They take the conference champs unless they are in the Playoff. If not in the playoff: a. Replacement Team Selection The Rose Bowl will select the highest rated remaining team in the final College Football Playoff Selection Committee standings as a replacement team when the Conference champion is selected to play in a College Football Playoff semifinal game. There are two limited circumstances under which the Rose Bowl may consider selecting a team other than the highest rated team. (12/13) (1) The highest rated team will be making its third consecutive appearance in the Rose Bowl game and at least one other Conference team is ranked within three positions of the highest rated team in the final College Football Playoff Committee rankings and the lower rated team beat the higher rated team during the regular season. In this case the Rose Bowl will have its choice between the highest rated team and the next highest rated team from the Conference. (12/13) (2) No teams are ranked in the final College Football Playoff Selection Committee standings. In this case, the Rose Bowl will have its choice of bowl eligible teams within one Conference win of each other (e.g., assuming the best remaining bowl eligible team had 7 wins in Conference games, the Rose Bowl may consider teams with 7 or 6 Conference wins) Among its criteria for selection, the Rose Bowl will consider head-to-head competition between the teams, most recent Rose Bowl appearance of the teams and consideration of which team would create the most compelling Rose Bowl game match-up from a ticket sales and television audience perspective. (12/13)

Michigan's problem is that if the 1-4 win out, then Michigan will not be in the playoffs, and will not win the Big 10, and will not go to the Rose Bowl, either.
With 1-4 winning this week, big if, of course, then the Big 10 champ won't be in the playoffs, because it will be Wisconsin or Penn State...the winner of that game will play Colorado in the Rose Bowl, since they will finish 2nd in the Pac12 and the 1st place Pac12 team will be in the playoffs.
That all assumes 1-4 winning...if any of them lose than it gets super ugly, and fast, and all this is up in the air.
Fish on...

I am pretty sure when they came up with the rules on selection they didn't plan on a conference having 2 higher ranked teams than the actual conference Champion.

They considered it. They had thought to make conference champion mandatory, after they had two teams from the same conference play for the title. They chose not to adopt it as a hard and fast rule.

One thing is for sure...there will be a lot more than Colorado fans rooting for the Buffaloes on Friday...the Dawgs winning should effectively lock out Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, and the entire Big 12, not to mention the Buffaloes themselves...and the Husky game is on Friday.
If, God forbid, the Huskies lose on Friday night...there will be at least five teams that will have a legitimate shot at their spot in the playoffs, and dozens of scenarios that all end with a different 1-4.
Fish on..

Don't let those scary thoughts creep into your head. The Dawgs ARE going to win. That being said, if it were to happen, it would quickly become the most epic chitshow ever created in CFB history. The anguished howls will be heard across the land as several "deserving" 2 loss teams get uber hosed for the prettiest of the 2 loss teams (which is Michigan in case you were wondering). Their Alumni status demands they be treated for the whiny elitist pricks they are. I really, really hate the Skunks. At least ND is nowhere to be found these days. Can you imagine what it would be like if they were? {{{Shudders}}}

The fact that Notre Dame and Oregon have less combined wins than the Huskies this year, and if the Coogs win their bowl game, will have less combined wins than the Cougars, too...well, let's just say that would be a gigantic cherry on top of a playoff berth for the Dawgs.

If ND had only 4 losses they would be considered for the #4 spot right now Noshit times berzillions. The Committee is already heartbroken that the entire top 4 can't lose twice each this weekend so they can get Louisville back in the mix. Never fear, though...Notre Dame will be a pre-season Top 20 team, and will have to lose at least twice before dropping out of the Top 25...which hopefully they will do by week 4 of the season. Fish on... Todd

[Bleeeeep!] ND and the Ducks!
The Dawgs are either in the play-offs or the Holiday Bowl from my point of view. Take care of business Friday and see where we end up. I hope WV brings their A game against Clemson. SF

Watch this Read this I guess the committee really struggled with Washington and Michigan and the margin of error is small between the two. The Dawgs really need to show up on Friday. Please, please, please punk Meechicken for me. PLEASE!

Being slotted at #4 now...I can't see any credible way that they could end the season with one loss, winning the Pac12 Championship game against a top 10 Colorado team, and drop down, especially below a team that is not even in their conference championship game and is sitting at home watching.
Michigan needs at least one loss from the 1-4 to have a shot, in my mind...actually 2-4, I think Alabama could lose their championship game this weekend and still be #1 in the playoff race, there would be no undefeated teams and they would be the best one loss team.
Clemson losing is probably the best bet for a whole host of teams, besides the Dawgs losing...but I think I am in full support of the 1-4 all winning convincingly and the playoff slots not changing between now and Sunday evening.
Fish on...
Todd
Edit: I forgot that Ohio State doesn't even play, so of course it would have to be Clemson and/or Washington to lose in order for Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Colorado, Oklahoma, or whoever to sneak into the playoffs.
