I have a Tent City out in the parking lot at work. In between 4 buildings, heavily used by 500+ undergraduate students on a daily basis. What do you have? Our new friends and visitors will be with us for the next three months and moved in over the weekend. I got to meet two of our neighbors when I walked out of my building yesterday to go home. One was a few cans short of a 12-pack, and was a bit overly excited to talk to me. The other was on a walk with his dog. Naturally, the dog was taking a sh#t in our walk-strip and the guy didn't bother to scoop-da-poop as us 206'ers with dogs love to do. Both didn't seem in any hurry to either be employed, or even bother to look for a job. Matter of fact, if I didn't know any better, I would say they were professional Tent City residents. Our building doors are open 7:30 to 6:30. I'd better keep my doors locked, else, I bet computers and other valuables will just wander away. I also love it when we find "strangers" rifling through our communal kitchens. Lunch time! Kinda not cool when someone eats YOUR lunch... 500 kids walking past this every day. Wonder if their parents know this is what they are paying for? Oh, and we've been assured many times that none of this is costing you, the tax payers, any money! None. Like all the meetings our staff here have attended about this Tent City. All those state employees and all those hours in meetings. Or, the extra security and patrols by our enforcement agency - nope, not paid for by you. Certainly not the power and water that was provided. Actually, Stam is paying for all of this. Thanks, Stam! I feel much better now. At least the students here are super excited for their new guests! Even raised $900, fed them a hot meal over the weekend, and gave each member a backpack with a pancho, socks, gloves, and hand warmer. I, on the other hand, may be a bit old and crotchety, and am not convinced our neighbors have us in their best interests. Still don't think that fine gentlemen scooped his dog poop.....at least I didn't contribute financially. I still sleep well at night. Should be an entertaining next 3 months...... PS. I wonder how many of you are in that city right now? I'm betting at least 3 of you.

There's a leisure class at either end of the economic spectrum. A fact I'm reminded of every time the steelhead are in .

The free Wi-Fi is just fine out here Paker - thank you and the students! You should come down and say hello. We are in the 3rd blue tent from the left entry way. The Spam is already on the fire and the 5 Roses is starting to flow. Bring cash and some clean spoons from your work kitchen please. Thanks...and see you soon!

Parker, First the song lyrics and now this. What's next.....Blurry moon pictures? Are you OK man?
1) You 206ers don't scoop poop. Most of you stick your hand in a plastic bag (similar to the ones you outlawed at grocery stores) and fondle your dog's steaming piles before neatly tying the bag in a knot and carrying it for the remainder of your nature walk. I would have more respect for you if you did actually use a shovel.
2) It's good for all those career students to see the type of housing their diplomas will get them once they enter the real world. Reality check 101.
3) At least now when you stare out the window during the summer, drooling at some 20 year old wearing next to nothing as she roller blades down the sidewalk, you can claim you were staring over the fence at the less fortunate.
4) Make them all mods.
And to think that liberal toilet bowl carries the vote in this state.

The Spam is already on the fire and the 5 Roses is starting to flow. It's 4 Roses. I learned that way back in '67 when some Hells Angels made me a whiskey Sno-Cone at a concert on Mt. Tamalpais. Oops. Sorry about that. I guess my "working white male privilege" got the best of me again. I should have known better; I am sorry and I am guilty as charged for not knowing what the Bums drink. To rectify against my privilege, I will drink (5) Starbucks and take (3) Whole Foods pilgrimages this very week.

Up here they don't make tent cities...they just move into a foreclosed house until they get evicted.
The Skagit River is my backyard, and the only legal access to my beach is from the river. They wouldn't last long there, 'cause first time the river came up it'd wash them and all their crap right down the river.
It's also not illegal to shoot here, so if they hung around they'd be putting up with my shooting clay pigeons (over their heads) from off the back porch.
Right now, I couldn't imagine a more miserable existence then trying to camp out up here. It's freakin' cold, wet and snowy, and there's nothing on that beach that will burn. Doubt they'd survive more than a couple days.

Snow, 7 chickens, and the occasional moose.
Kind of a quiet backyard this time of year. I like it that way.

That's a nice pad you have M, perfect for shooting clays. Let me know when, I'll bring the clays/shells. How is the Mrs doing?

The morning sunrise coming up over Mt. Rainier, a mixed conifer and deciduous forest, the fenced and landscaped section immediately behind the house, and of course, the near ever-present rodent blacktail deer looking to get in my yard.
Nice place ya' got for a tent city there Paker. Clearly, the more that Seattle enables homelessness, the more homeless the Emerald City will attract. I do feel bad for the truly down and out, but I never give a dime to panhandlers. I prefer to give to the Salvation Army and Bread and Roses, places that have rules: no drugs; no drunks. My money, my rules, I feel better with that.
Your tent city is too accommodating.

Unbelievable. What keeps you there, Parker? My children, a parenting plan, and their education. Once the last child is done with high school, we are outta here! 6 more years, as the baby is 12 and in the 6th grade now. Parker, First the song lyrics and now this. What's next.....Blurry moon pictures? Are you OK man? Never been better. Thanks for asking! I don't own a dog and would never scoop poop. OTOH, I would never own a non-hunting dog that didn't have acreage to run feely on. Hence, why I don't own a lab in C-attle. 2) It's good for all those career students to see the type of housing their diplomas will get them once they enter the real world. Reality check 101. Wrong university, dude. You have this school and students mistaken for WSU or U of O. Besides, most of the graduating students here will go back to China, Korea, Japan, etc.
Damn good idea. Even as one who lives in this cess pool of libtardness, it pains me to see the 206'ers carry the majority of the vote. OTOH, not like I really want someone from Enumclaw, SeaTac, Chehalis Basin, or Quillcene to have any say either. PS - LUNCH IS READY! It's homemade left over chili with grated cheese and sour cream available as toppings. Spoons and bowls are washed. PPS - OH, and just in case you didn't know, our seminars are open to the public and often have refreshments served afterwards. Almost every doctoral or masters defense has at least coffee, juice, bagels, and cookies at them.

More leaves than want to take care of. A garden that looks like what gardens look like in December. A lot of trees. Weird mushrooms, but none of the really weird ones, unfortunately. Quite a few hummingbirds lately. A family of racoons that my three pound cat terrorizes whenever she catches any of them on the ground. A big covered area next to my garage that is way better to hang out in when it's not fuckin December.
Fish on...

It's called Trumpville. Landlords in Seattle raised their rents forcing a tent city. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

It's called Trumpville. Landlords in Seattle raised their rents forcing a tent city. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. More like Murrayville. The dumbfuck keeps throwing services and money at folks that take advantage of them but still prefer to be homeless or live on the streets. Seattle has become like a big ad asking more homeless to come. Tons of litter everywhere. What was once a pretty cool city to live in has become one big shithole. The homeless set up a tent-n-tarp city under an overpass down here. The Silly Council finally got tired of hearing the complaints and sent the squatters an eviction notice: "Get out of town by Sundown 0:30 or your tarp houses and all of your belongings will be hauled away."
Danged if they didn't do it, too. They gathered up all the city workers that wanted overtime. Hired some of the homeless to fill in the gaps of workers. Brought in the garbage trucks and hauled all of that tent-n-tarp city away. Of course they had to put all that crap in storage. You know, just in case one of those squatters decided his/her life wasn't worth living without the junk he/she accumulated during their prolonged periods of being disadvantaged and underprivileged.
It worked out well. The under-the-overpass dwellers were funneled downtown for easier access to their begging territory and the working class are developing valuable footwork skills for avoiding the piles of human excrement. That really showed them. All fixed.

Truly hope it works out ok, in the long term. We had to move our young ones during a custodial dispute, but we were able to keep them in the same school district. Transportation was on us though. Good luck.
