Gezzus ... So a guy gives away some old fishing lures with rusty treble hooks, sneaks up on folks on a foggy Halloween morning, throws small zip locks stuffed with small candy bars, a few sinkers and some home made spinners and you go and make me like I'm sorta dang fool Santa Claus.

When Holloeween comes along, one of the things I miss is the bag of goodies form Black Bart. Foggy or not he would find you if you were any where near Twidwells..

My wife and I were fishing near there one day and the current was too fast for our spoons. Bart came by and threw a spinner into our boat and said,"try this." I put it on my wife's line. She caught two and then let me catch the last two.

Patrick McManus has so many comical outdoor stories in his books; hunting and fishing. But the day Bart "spooled" Herman at the "boil" was classic.
I felt like the old guy in the Pink Panther movie who pulled up the chair and watched the part where the zebra ran by. Thanks, Bart.

I have never been a fishing guide for hire. Don't get me wrong. I "guided" so many of my old friends from Boeing on free trips on the Cowlitz and the Columbia that it just plain wore me out. All on my dime of course.

Then I did waste a few years and a whole lot of my own money on a volunteer basis as the first Executive Director of Sport Fishing Guides of Washington. You know ... The Cowlitz River Clancy Club.

Truly sad how Clancy and his band of culls wasted all of my time and effort out of my willingness to help them out. Clearly, it's just damn hard if not impossible to help a band of tweakers and convicted felons to keep from bickering, trying to sway clients away from some other guide in the group in the hopes of enriching themselves.

It just made it pretty easy for me to simply walk away and say good luck, because you sunz a b!tches are going to need it.

Right on! To some it's all about money and not the fish. I'm no longer going to target native Steelhead any more. Not preaching for others to do the same, I just don't want to be part of the problem. I will fish with my best bud in Oregon for the brood stock though. Take care.
