Not a political, deep state, fake news, gnome squatch pizza gate subject.
Just curious if anyone ever gets asks a lot where you are from? I've live in Washington my whole life, but pretty consistently have people ask me if I'm from Minnesota, Wisconsin etc. They always mention an upper Midwest state. I got asked again by the checker at the grocery store this weekend.
I find it humorous when asked, but is there such a thing as a PNW dialect? SF

I don't know about a PNW dialect, but if I go to Canada for a couple days of fishing, I come back with their dialect....eh? And I pronounce Vancouver as "Vancooover".

What's this thread aboot? Ya'll sound like Canucks the most - sorta. More of a western sounding Canuck than an Eastern sounding Canuck. Like a weird Canuck and Cali West Coast hybrid thing going on. It's NOT upper midwestern which is very nasally and sloooow. You pronounce your "H's" and "R's" which is a dead giveaway that you aren't upper mid western. But your "O's" can be kinda fvcked up sometimes. Your pitch, tone and cadence are all standard middle of the road. Oddly enough, I'm from that one area of the country (CO & NE) that doesn't have accents per a bunch of studies. I hear accents a mile away and I pick up accents like nobody's business - I guess because I'm used to no accent which is boring and dry. Because I've lived all over, I'll often mix in some deep southern with some upper mid west and a Texas drawl. I've left more than my share of folks entirely confused. I don't know.

I don't think we do, and l'm pretty sensitive to accents. Us locals know how all the weirdly spelled native named towns & rivers are pronounced. So that's a dead give away if somebody don't nail it. As to you being pegged from Minnesota or Wisconsin... no clue, do you buy tons of cheddar or tallboy Hamm's?

I do like me some cheddar and tall boys, though not necessarily Hamm's. I'll be in Minnesota next month chasing fish so I'll see how the locals feel about my perceived accent. SF

My kids used to mimic this gal in the car on the way everywhere. “Hello, I am Amy Walker.” “Hello, I am Amy Walker...” On and on. She is interesting and it helps that she is smoking beautiful too. Nice breakdown, Nick. How 'bout some examples of "H" and "R" words ? I think some of the BC accent is leaking down on you 206ers, eh ? There is a "Northern Tier" accent that runs all the way from from BC to (inland) New England. (Ohio/Indiana excepted) I'm from MA and people thought I was from BC when I first came out. I meant oot. I rarely hear any of the Northen tier accent down here. There is a Willamette Valley accent that is one of the greats, but it is dying out. There is an Eastern Oregon that is similar. Those are what I think of as a PNW accent.

Sure! You betcha!
For an upper midwest accent, you gotta pin your checks tight in the corners of your mouth and only crack your mouth open a bit. Your chin and cheek muscles should kinda be pinned tight. For "R", words like work become weerrk, where the "O" sounds like an "E" and bleeds into the "R". When the letter "U" is preceded by an "H", the 'H" is often silent or blended into a "EWE" sound. Words like "Huge" become "Yuge" and the "H" is almost / is silent. "H's" followed by "O's" become a "WHO" sound. So instead of Human is Hooman. PNWr's do none of this. But the Canucks have screwed up your "O's" for certain.
When I moved to Michigan to go to college, I was floored by how retardedly charming the upper midwest + canuck accent and way of speaking really is. They all thought I was from Texas because I spoke with a drawl. Then I moved onto to South Carolina and that's a whole other level of retardation. Ah...the deep south. There is a reason I live in the exact opposite corner of the US.

Maybe I'm retarded too, but I like the North Carolina accent. Especially when wafting out of a hot woman.

Here's the thing with the "Southern Belle" accent. It's is smoking hot, but only on women who are already smoking hot. I'm not convinced these women could be deaf mutes and still not be smoking hot. In fact, that would probably be best amiright? Were I was in the south, the women were either true playmates or fat trailer trash. 1:67 ratio +/-. So, that accent gets old really quick when spoken by da' ignant sounding fatties. With the hotties...it's all "tell me more!".... Edit: I suspect this fact plays out with all languages, dialects and accents. Hot is universal and they all end up sounding like Charlie Brown's teacher anyway.

Nah - I had my own hottie while down there. But yes, I did regular party with em' all over bonfires, bbq and mason jars of shine. As expected, the fatties made the best Q. Thank goodness I had a GF, cuz' that shine stuff can make a fella do really dumb things. I do miss southern "waitress charm" as I call it, where everything is "honey", "sugar" and "sweetie" or as Hank hears it "Hey Faggot!!!".

SF,
I would says yes. I remember taking a dialect quiz once that was able to detect down tot the specific city of where I was most likely from given the choice of words I use. I remember having several friends who were out of state also take the test and have pretty spot on accurate results with theirs as well.
