The University of Washington's Chuck Nelson had kicked an N.C.A.A.-record 30 straight field goals going into his 1982 game against rival Washington State. But in that game he missed a key 33-yarder that led to the Huskies losing in what was considered a tremendous upset. Nelson would eventually be known throughout the Pacific Northwest as Wide Right Chuckie.
