1) what brand of camera do you use, and do you keep in in a freezer bag to keep it dry?
2) what material are your gloves made out of? i have some neoprenes that are not waterproof at all, also is it true that wool gloves will keep your hands warm even if they are wet? thanks

1) Cameras: digital - Sony Mavica FD-73, will likely replace in the very nea future; still: usually carry a Minolta 700Si in the boat, an Olympus Stlyus Zoom when hoofin' it. The Video Cam - Sony TRV-99. Don't trust a freezer bag ... I carry all of 'em in a Pelican case in my boat and it has taken very good care of them. Excpetion: hoofing it, the little camera goes in a ziploc. 2) I tried all sorts of "keep warm" gloves over the years and the only thing I could ever row with were some goodies I picked up from the golf shop I used to work for, cold-weather golf gloves. I don't even really like them though. Last summer, I was sick of dealing with thrashed, cracked hands and broke down and got some decent quality surgical gloves (the thicker ones) and was very happy with how many hands stayed in one piece (in August, I found I could still hold onto a golf club w/o grimacing from cuts and cracks). A bonus: they actually seemed to keep my hands warmer, I might try them this winter

I use polyester fleece "glove-mitts." They're half-finger gloves that have a "mitten" piece which can be pulled over the fingers for extra warmth (like when you're hoofing it from one hole to the next) or pulled back and secured to a piece of velcro on the back of the glove so you can use your fingers (like when you're tying a knot). The nice thing about polyester fleece is that it still retains some of its insulating ability even when it gets wet. Even so, I usually carry a spare pair in my vest just in case I take a swim.

I too am using the Sony FD-73 and the Sony 64x steady shot video camera... I broke down and bought a goretex camera bag from a photo shop for about $70, it carries both video/digital cameras. I also have a rubbermaid tub that I carry in my boats, the camera bag always stays in it unit we are ready to shoot... the Rubbermaid tub was $7 and is the best dry box out there. I also have a smaller one for al lof my tackle boxes and leader rolls etc. Quick note.. I bought the tub that locks down from the top, with an overlapping lid, it is really light and stays dry. As far as gloves, I like the seal skins from cabelas... pretty light and easy to row in, but hard to fish with. TH www.thcustomrods.com

I was using an Olympus D340L digital camera until I took it swimming on Cook Creek. The replacement camera is an Agfa 780c digital. I'll only put it in a freezer bag if I fear that it will get wet by the rain. Normally, I don't carry a camera when it is raining. 2) what material are your gloves made out of? i have some neoprenes that are not waterproof at all, also is it true that wool gloves will keep your hands warm even if they are wet? thanks
I'll use fingerless wool gloves just to keep my hands warm, or when I'm on the sticks. No, wool doesn't keep you warm when it gets wet. Neoprene will, though. Unfortunately, most of the commercial neoprene gloves for fishermen suck and are piles of garbage. The good neoprene gloves (for scuba) are too thick and bulky for fishing. I generally don't like to wear gloves when actively fishing as I've had wool threads come off of my gloves and get sucked in to a screaming reel drag as a fish was running for dear life. Needless to say, bad things happen when the wool thread stops your drag! Like Bob, I tend to use surgical gloves. They keep your hands warm(ish), dry, and egg/shrimp free. Teds sells some pretty good combo fingerless gloves made of fleece over the back of the hand and neoprene over the palm for both warmth and sensitivity. They also have velcro at the wrist so you can tighten them down. Pretty warm, sensitive, and not bulky.
I use a Pentax Zoom 90 WR when I take a camera with me. Not too fancy, but it's very water resistent. Drop it in and it floats, just run like hell downstream, pick it out, wipe it off, and its ready to go.

Cameras are one thing. I keep mine in a zip loc bag.
Gloves are another: personal. I use Neoprene Glacier gloves made for kayakers. I can fly fish (but I need to remove the glves for tying on flies and gear) and I row with them. They are by far the beat thing I have found. REI has them in the Kayak section. I figured if Kayakers like'em then rowers like me would like'em.

I would recommend the Pentax IQ Zoom 105 WR. I'ts weather resistant and will even handle an occasional drop in the river.
