I know this probably has been discussed before but I am looking for a good rain jacket that will keep me warm and dry all day, in the worst of conditions. Any input will be appreciated.

Hey banki, I have been wearing the Cabelas Dry Plus waiding jacket now for about 6 years and it still keeps me vary dry. Check it out. You cannot go wrong with any Cabela's stuff. Cost about $100 bucks but well worth it. Dan

I like the Filson also, in addition to being dry, they are warm. Also, they are a natural brown color, not teal, pink or purple.

While we're on the subject, do you need to srpay the Filson jackets with a protectant after extended use and if so, how how often? I have heard that the GorTex stuff requires some spray on treatment from time to time. Just wondering how the oil skins are for maintenace. I was also wondering if there are any stores in the Seattle metropolitain area or surrounding areas that carry Filson so I can take a peek. I have already visited their website.

Thank you,
Justin

They were made in Seattle but got moved to a new locality when the stadium went in. I think they are still close by though.

Outdoor Emporium I believe used to sell their line. Not sure if they still do.

Might want to try to call headquarters.
(not alot of help, am I, sorry)

Filson is now down just south of the stadium on fourth I think. Ya can see the big sign painted on the side of the building.

I have a cut up/retrofitted/resewed to fit/looks like a wading jacket now, 2 ply gortex jacket from a cheapo mail order house that is absolutely wonderful. neoprene jackets may be nice but I would sweat like a pig when I am on the sticks. heck, might as well get my wet suit out then....

Saukit2em,
I'm talking here about the Filson wading jacket. It's an olive, waist-length, waxed cotton jacket with a built-in hood and two large breast pockets. The only drawback to waxed cotton jackets (and I also have a Barbour Spey jacket)is that it is necessary to re-proof them periodically (every year or so) to retain their water repellency. This involves applying a soft, paste wax that comes in a tin like a shoe polish tin, and it helps to apply a little heat to melt it. There are all sorts of tricks, like using a hair dryer to keep the fabric warm so the wax goes on smoothly. No matter what you do it's not a task that most people would look forward to. The positive side is that a Filson jacket will breathe as well as Gore-tex but, unlike Gore-tex, will keep you dry in an all day downpour and will last a lifetime. You can take a look at it on www.filson.com.

I own both Filson and Browning, both are very good rain jackets. The filson is my every day jacket. The things are built like a tank.If you do any hunting go for the Browning,as the filson is a noisy jacket in the bush. One other thing about the Filson is that you cannot ever wash it.You will wreck the water repellency of the jacket, but not to worry about that all that fish blood just adds a personal touch to the jacket.
