Not smart to start some $hit with someone 30yrs younger than you especially at the age of 70. All conflicts could have been avoided if that old salty crab would have kept his mouth shut. Not smart on the other dude pushing that old duffer in the water. What do ya do?

Being in the 70+ category I probably should just jump on the defense of the old guy.....but before that occurs I'd like to hear Paul Harvey once more say "and now for the rest of the story" and provide all of the details.

As for the rest of the children all I can say is grow up.

I live close to "boat launch's" on 3 different rivers, Satsop, Chehalis, Wynoochee.....all 3 rivers have single ramp launch's, well Chehalis does have a couple of double ramps, its the single ramps that I see have the most problems.

2 ways to back boat on a launch:

1. Use mirrors

2. Open door try to see and control wheel at same time

It is very evident to me that this is a skill, launching, that some people need to spend some time, in a big parking lot, doing some simple practice.

1. To many people just aren't that sure which way to "turn the wheel" to start the backing maneuver.

2. Way to much "wheel turning", then end up pulling up and try to start over

3. try to do the maneuvers, WAY TO FAST, "slow backing speed, fast wheel moves".....get it done much faster...

The only way to gain skill at backing a boat is through experience.

Best thing a person unskilled at backing a trailer can do is to set out a "practice
ramp" using cones, buckets .....whatever. Pick a spot in an empty parking lot,
that way there's nothing to hit.

Don't over-steer, and learn to use your mirrors..that "open the door and watch"
method leaves you completely blind on the passenger side.

When I was 18-19 I'd hang out at the big public launch ramps in Newport Beach,
and could make $20 a pop all day long just backing peoples boats/trailers in
for them .

I would say the real problem is that young men are more afraid than ever to admit when they are in over their head. They want to be an expert trailer driver with a big dick in a single day.

When I was supervising a crew I would ask the greenhorn to back the boat in at the appropriate time and he/she was always embarrassed flustered and acted like I was being a prick making them do it while we all watched and waited. My response was, “what better way to learn than trial by fire?” Its much easier to approach life as a learning experience rather than a competition. Embrace uncomfortable, pay attention, learn. Young people think they will just “know” how to trailer or figure it out because they have seen guys they look down on do it, its sad.

Its the Im gonna delude myself into thinking I am an expert by surrounding myself with retards and not actually learning from a mentor. Its the Im playing guide on my 10th day fishing because I have some even greener guys fishing with me attitude. Have some humility and enjoy learning new skills. Nobody is born elite but seems like some people think you are if you talk and dress right. These young ones these days are more shallow and insecure than ever and when they have a nice truck and boat and cant even trailer it they get extra sensitive.

In a few years you will probably see young men on facebook posting Go Pro videos of perfect trailering thinking thats what “real” men do.

This got moved to the dark side. All bets are off here. Glad we have ultra mature folks around to try and teach us youngsters though. Does it get lonely up there?
