One of the Lampson Lp series if you can find one. Oversized drag and light, now owned by Sage I think.Good Luck.

I built a 9' 8wt and at the time I didn't have much money to spend on a reel (Hey I'm 16, money is scarce ) Then the Silvers were running and so I just wanted something to get me by. So I bought a Cortland Mosquito. It is a super cheapo reel, but it gets the job done for me. I haven't caught any huge fish on it, the biggest was a 9lb silver. Eventually I'm going to get a Teton Tioga. I've talked to a lot of people and everyone of them liked the Tioga. If not, get a Ross Cimarron. I've heard good things about the Cimarron too. Personally I'd go with the Tioga. Just my opinion.

Just to add a economical choice, try the Okuma reels. They are comparable to the sci ang reels in my opinion. Not awesome, but not bad either. I have used them for awhile now (1 1/2 seasons) on the salt exclusively and if you wash them out they work great. I like the price ( $35 /$17 spool ) and they have a good enough drag to stop a decent silver. Just my .02. For my 8 weight and larger fish I use C.A. Harris reels which are much more then $200 but nice.

Go with Ross Reels undoughtedly.

The new Canyon series and the Gunnison are a sure bet for success, long lasting durability, pure punishment reels.
