When you pick up a fish from the tail and you can feel there spine popping, I heard when you do this, it emits some sort of fluid that makes the meat go bad faster than usual, does anyone know if this is true or not?

I think it's blood. Commercials learned that long ago, not to hold a heavy fish by the tail, as it reduces its market value.

when i worked up in alaska we used to do pick up the tails on alot of fish, thus when you hear the popping, it causes the meat to seperate from the bone, thats atleast what i heard...**schitzo**

This is kind of close ...

When I was a kid my Dad would catch Garter Snakes from time to time. If you "snap" them like a towel there heads go sailing. We used to find this quite entertaining.
