I have a Alumaweld sled as well as a drift boat and like them . To me drift boats are like running shoes ..So many different ones for each track. Find one you like and enjoy

I have an old Alumaweld drifter ('78). Doesn't have a fancy paint job but it works just fine.

I have an older Alumaweld drift boat. I got it 12-13 years ago and never had a single problem. Caught a ton of fish in that boat. One thing I can tell you is that the trailer it came with was crap. I had to get a new one.

Not to step on any toes but they row like a wet log. Look in to some of the others out there. Just my .02 cents worth. Mine is made of aluminum 16ft wide guide it is only 300 #,s.

I have a 1992 Alumaweld 16'. This is the only driftboat I have ever owned or rowed so I am not one to give you a good comparison. I will tell you, however, that my boat is incredibly heavy. If you don't have a boat launch at the pull-out, well, you don't pull out, lol. It is very stable, comfortable, but seems a bit slow to respond, particularly with three anglers in the boat. I don't know, maybe they are all this way. I would suggest that you row a few boats, then buy, wish I had.

Good luck.

Slow and Sluggish! Make sure the boat you buy starts with a "W" (There are 2). I hear the Fish Rites row ok but never rowed one myself.

I think the Fish-rite is just about an identical boat to the Willie. I have put my Willie right next to a Fish-rite. The only differences that could be found were that the side rails were different (mine had the new willie unirail), the foot bar was different, and anchor nest was a little different. Other than that they were identical even the bottom shape looked the same. Reminds me of the difference between Chevy and GMC, one is just a little pricier and has a few minor cosmetic differences. I would like to compare my boat to the Hyde aluminum one day. From the pictures they also look identical to a Willie .

I own a 17'X 60" Fish-Rite and love it... Ii rows exactly like the Willies 17'X60" my uncle has. But the Willies peope are so much nicer to work with... I called Fish Rite last summer to have a new anchor system installed... they said $280 and we can do it in three months..... I called Willes, $180 and we will fit you in tomorrow... Needless to say I ordered a 22' Willie open Predator.
But my Fish Rite drift boat is awesome.

I had a Alumaweld that I bought new in 82 and fish it for ten yrs they are not as responsive as a Willie or Fishrite but they track just as well.I bought a new Fishrite with the plastic put on the bottom it adds a little weight but it slides over the rocks as good if not better than glass.

Some good points. My old Alumaweld is the only one I've rowed so I may not know what I'm missing. That's alright with me, considering I bought it for less than 2K. If I went out and rowed a new Willie's I'd probably talk myself into buying a new one and I don't really need the debt. Makes me wonder if I'd still be happy with my old Eagle Claw rods if I had never tried Loomis' and Sage's.
