River ...

Well, I was never sure but it seems to be the 21st of December 2000. I will be f.f.f.40 today. I got the day off from the candle factory and I'm goin' fishin.

I'll be the one with waders, a green rainjacket, and a beard at the bottom of the drift at Reiter. I know there is little hope of actually catching a fish because they will be somewhere else. Stop and say HELLO.

I actually managed to get one there last Sunday. Put the FNG on one, too.

The real point of this post is to get something positive going. I thought that perhaps a little Steelhead or Fishing Poetry might be nice.

Give it yer best shot. The next post will be one of many, perhaps.

(I would have started this in Oregon, If you know what I mean RT, but this stupid machine doesn't remember my password)

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A BIG FISH

GutZ

Or fishing from a boat,

Well FG, I see by your post that you eventually made it home last night, er rather this a.m. Was glad to help you into the big day.
Today looks to be a beautiful day, and I hope to hear a good report from you.
You know what inspired my poetry, 'cause you was there. For the rest of you...that was my first steelie experience. I now understand "freight train."

The day I thought I hooked a trout
I felt a bit of a lout
as I stepped out of the river
and had a bit of shiver and quiver
as my pucker turned out to be a great big sucker.

Heres one for ya all!

On a ancient wall in China.
Were a brooding Budda blinks, is this message etched in stone,
"Its later than you think"!
For the clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power. To tell just when the hands will stop at late or early hour.
For now is the only time you own, the pasts a golden link.
"Go fishing now my brother, Its later than you think"!

Merry Christmas, and a happy new year!

Ill be in Froks for the next 7 or 8 days (weather/river level permitting) Im in a purple and white Willie. Say hi if ya see me...

The only thing biting at Reiter yesterday was the WIND. It was howling. Saw two fish for the hearty souls who brave'd it. I hope they show soon.

Here is one my Grandma used when I was a kid, so long ago ...

Fishy, Fishy in the Brook,
Jeffy Catch'em on a Hook,
Grandma Cook'em in a Pan,
Jeffy eat'em like a MAN.

Fishaday;
You got your post switched. It sez you release brats and bonk nates? I Think Not!

"The Steelhead"

The Buzz of the line
The hum of the reel
Damn this fish is made of steel

My fore arms burn
As I hold tight
To this silver fish
What a fight

This way and that
Up in the air
Around a rock
that was a scare

The sweat beads up
Running down my brow
As I gently land this Native sow

Her Crimson Cheeks
and silver sides
Glisten in the morning light

I cradle her belly
As she swims free
A piece of heaven given to me.

'twas the night before Christmas on a big lake "down east"
anglers fished in their shanties with dreams of a feast.

O'er auger-drilled ice holes, they sat and they knelt,
in hopes of a big catch of perch, pike or smelt.

Just then,a jalopy-like sleigh fell from space,
strewing buckets of minnows all over the place.

Then out popped old Santa. "I need help, I fear.
"Every letter before me says, Send fishing gear."

I've requests from all over, and I'm running quite late,
"cause I don't know my rigs and my lures from bait."

They laughed and said, "Well, for that type of haul,
we'll just catalog shop, then give Bass Pro a call.

Making Santa's selections, they used his charge card,
then flew off to the store and found gifts by the yard.

For largemouth!
For Salmon!
For Muskies1
And Splake!
For Walleyes!
For Sunnies!
For Mackerel!
And Hake!

Some waders for rivers!
Some flippers!
Some floats!
Some inboards!
Some Outboards!
Some motors for boats!

They even picked fly rods and sleek spinning reels,
tied flies by the dozen and plenty of creels.

The sleigh was now loaded with poles, jigs and plugs,
with spoons and bright lures that resembled big bugs.

"It's great!" Santa said, I can't thank you enough,
But I have one more problem, Just who gets which stuff?"

So Santa's new helpers climbed back on the sleigh.
"Take off, and we'll give you some lessons today."

They flew off to Montauk and Jersey shoreline,
Carolina locales hidden deep in the pine.

Wherever they flew, they gave just the right gear,
They flew East!
They flew West!
They flew far!
They flew near!
Then off to Mobile with its Catfish and gar,
and up the Gulf Coast where great Bullheads are.

They expressed some concern for guys in the Keys,
'cause Bone-fish fanatics are harder to please.

Then, north towards the border for Smallmouth and Trout,
where Muskies and Pickerel swim all about.

Down Yellowstone way, heading toward Jackson Hole,
to the Tetons next-they were reaching their goal,
Where rivers run through it-Great Falls to Big Sky'
they pointed out (hatchery)Steelhead you just catch and fry.

They stopped at all points from Wasatch to Sun Valley,
dropping tackle and bait but no time to dally.

For just as the Washington Salmon were spawning,
dawn hinted of breaking, and Santa was yawning.

One last stop in Frisco-Red Snapper for all,
Santa said, fork in hand "Now I'm having a ball"

With their bellies all full, back to Maine Santa flew,
giving bobbers and gaffs to each one of his crew.

Soon they heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all!
May the fish always bite."

I received this today from a client and thought it was very nice. So from fp, Merry Christmas to all.
