While fishing in Cascade Lake in 'Stone we came upon an area of flattened grass with a few whisps of elk hair, skin, and bone. Very few. We walked around, looked at the remnants, and went on fishing down the creek.

Obviously, the elk had been killed by wolves. We talked with the wolf bio later, let him know the location, and he told us which pack. It was likely cleaned up by a Grizz. As with most things that happen to me in the woods, we were lucky that none of them were still either in the vicinity or concerned about us.

Later, on the same trip, were were fishing up Cascade Creek a couple miles downstream. About 50-75 yards ahead of us I spotted a mountain of brown fur. First thought was bear, so we backed away and went around. Instead, it was an old lone bull bison. On the way back down the creek we saw him again but he was now standing and was aware of us. We took a hard right and found another way back to the car.

That is why (in addition to some nice fishing) I love to go there. Chance to see animals doing their thing. We saw a really sick bison along the Yellowstone River (he'd lost a fight for a cow) and we were all wondering when the wolf pack would show up for dinner.

HOLY CHIT! We were just talking this weekend about how tough deer can be, but this is a whole other level. Crazy!
