It was inserted into the Constitution to protect our Democracy in case the electorate elected a totally incompetent imbecile clown.
Well that ship sailed, we now have living proof that it did in fact not work.
We elect, mayors, governors, senators, representatives and judges all by majority rule.
The electoral college is not democracy, it's fvcking minority rule.

The electoral college is not favored by the Democrats but is favored by the Republicans. It yields an outcome that better benefits the latter. I wonder at what point it will be canned.

The fact that one candidate right now is 3.5 Million votes behind, and will likely lose the popular vote by over 4 Million, but is suing to stop counting American votes in order to eke out a win in the electoral college should be all the fact you need.

How about CA population 30 million with 2 senators and WY population 500 thousand with 2 senators.

Trump won a "massive victory!"...his words...and now election observers are allowed closer than 6 feet while watching election workers, so long as they wear masks.

I and ~62 percent of adults think whoever wins the popular vote should win the prez. Nothing wrong with the actual voters choosing the prez by the actual popular vote. As one of my republican friends is so fond of saying, "majority rules"....uh, when the gop is in charge of course.
But I doubt it will change in the near term. It would take Constitutional amendment which requires approval of 2/3 of both houses of congress, plus ratification by the states. Too many GOPers benefit from it so they won't be voting for it anytime soon. There is another path to effectively invalidating the EC when there is a disparity between the Popular vote and the EC. It is the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact and more information is here: https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/written-explanationThe US Constitution does specifically allow States to determine how they choose the Electors for the EC. The Compact needs States with another 74 EC votes in order to enact it.

Oh don't worry, he started campaigning back in 2016. I do see him as the forefront leader in the 2024 race. I still have 4 more years to learn something other than greetings, please/thanks, swear words, and drinking chants in Russian. OTOH, I'm not too sure I do need to know more Russian than that. I mean I know about that much in Spanish and that seems to get me by just fine.
