I have 2 Loomis rods, one is a 1083C which I use for Fall Salmon and the other is a 1082S which I use for Winter Steelhead (jig fishing). I am wondering if the 1082 is the right pole for jigs, seems kinda short. Also want to know which Loomis pole is the best for plunking.

I like to use a 10.5 foot rod for float/jig fishing. I use Dave Vedder's signiture Lamiglass rod. G-Loomis doesn't make a rod that feels quite as nice as this particular Lamiglass for floats. Let me correct myself, they may make one, but it would be either a GL3 or IMX.

Hey drift, I am right now asking pretty much the same question.I have narrowed it down to two, 1143(9'6") and 1084(9').
You are already using a 9' foot rod so you can eliminate the 1084. I have been leaning toward the 1143since it is a foot taller then what I am using rigt now.I was also told to try out the 1263(10'6") and the 1445(12').Far as plunking, I don't do but I have heard that the loomis Muskie rods are very good for this and the Hot shot series.

Drift Beginner, I just recently bought a gl3 1143 in the 9'-6" and I love it! In my opinion it is the best rod I own now. As far as a good plunking loomis, I use the gl2 9'-0" heavy 10-20lbs. This pole gives you plenty of throwing power, not that you need to throw that far anyway but just in case you want out just a little further this pole keeps the line out of the water better and has good hook setting power. When I plunk I throw 8oz. I've caught many fish on this rod and it has great sensitivity when a fish is thrashing around, by far this is my favorite for plunking anywhere.

It all depends on how heavy of a lead you are going to plunk with. If your plunking up to 5 or 6 ounces get the loomis 982C or if you want a more you can use all around get the 1021C.
