I want a sport gillnet licenese or at least a permit to fish with big fire crackers. The part in the add that claims it was outlawed is the relavent concept. Seriously these types of lures would be ok in terminal areas fishing for hard mouthed plants that need to be harvested, but I don't think that using any type of new gear to make angling more efficent is in the best intrest of our dwindeling wild fish numbers or the long term health of Sport. Kind of like high jumping with springs or steroids for body builders.

Native son, Since you don't read so well, you should stand farther away from your monitor. The article stated that Minnesota was one of three states that didn't allow lighted lures. That is until Governor Ventura signed the bill that made it legal in Minnesota. You probably don't believe in the use of GLOOMIS or Lamiglass rods either. If you don't want to catch more fish, thats ok with me. By the way, do you also feel that fishing is cruel to fish? PETA is looking for people like you. Come into the light!

Hey, Fear No Fish. Relax. Native Son is just making a point in regards to the wild fish. Perhaps you should read, where he says that there is a place for it with the brats, but discretion should be used regarding wild fish.
You won't make a lot of friends on this board by blasting people right out of the chute. If you need a lighted lure to catch a fish, something ain't right in Dodge. While your at it, buy a dozen banjo lures too. You can do the same thing as the "glojig" by using luminescent flashabou, and hitting it with a camera strobe. Cheaper way to do it too.
Oh, by the way, I live in Minnesota, and Jesse had to wrestle 8 legislators by himself in a battle Royale, barb wire, chainsaw, no holds barred match to change that law. Peace, and it's all good.

Hawk, I too am from Minnesota. Jim Janos( Jesse Ventura) lived 5 houses down from me, while I was growing up in New Hope. His gym is where I started training. If you and Native son have never used lighted lures you don't know what you are missing. Since 1990 they have accounted for over 900 steelhead and 450 salmon out of my boat. No fork tongue here. It must be the steroid rage talking. Seriously, it pisses me off when someone is hypocritical about a new fishing weapon. What about boats, underwater cameras, depthfinders, Gamakatsu hooks, fluorcarbon leaders, corkies, rags, secret cures, etc. They all make fishing easier and better. Obviously I am not a purist. I just like to catch a lot of fish. Steelhead and Salmon don't like blinking red lights. Kind of like waving a red blanket in front of a bull. Remember, steroids do not enhance athletic ability. They just make you stronger and faster. Blinking red lures do not enhance fishing ability. They just catch you more fish. Isn't that the bottom line? Word.

Either way, it looks interesting. What's the old saying, "there are more fishermen than fish caught by lures." I am most guilty for trying to substitute new technology for my lack of skill!

Hey Fear No Fish. My feelings aren't hurt. You need to move back to the Midwest. Those numbers you posted for fish are very capable of being beaten in less than 4 years, if you can log 12 decent trips per year for steelies or salmon. There may even be a TV show in your area some day that will be airing one of our trips. The good old days are here right now. Throw a traffic light at our fish, and they'll head for the lake. I'll give one a try and let you know what I come up with.
Before I do that, I'm trying the 2 dozen sand shrimp that Reiter Rat is going to Fed Ex to me in March. Own all kinds of rods, fish all kinds of hooks, use bait, flies, jigs, pink worms, sponge, and garden hackle, if that's what it takes. And by the way, I'm not a purist. Just ask Robbo or the Rat, or all of those sore mouthed woofers, silvers, and summer runs that I boinked a month ago in Washington. Peace

Hey Jigman. Powder painted a bunch of the 1/16th ounce rainbow heads last night after work. Tied them up with hackle and maribou. They look sweet. Do they actually have a catalog now? If so, I'm gonna e-mail him and ask for it.
I agree with you. They look like a little submarine or the head of that ugly steelie I caught last year with the mutant melon. They kind of resemble Jesses' melon. UGGGGLY. But you know what, I'm ugly, and can still catch fish. LOL

Jigman, They are pretty ugly. But in low light conditions, with a prawn tail, they would be killer for steelies. Above the dams a lot of guys slowly pull jigs around under a slip bobber. I only fish for steelhead at night pulling lighted vortexes. I will be giving em a try though. I might not let you guys know how well they work.JK! See ya on the water.

Hawk, they do have a catalog now. As for those new jigs I think they may have some applications in deep water jigging for Walleye or lake trout etc. but for around here......probably not. I personally don't care to fish at night.
