Wife and went east and fished the upper Cle Elum. Man, there is just not water over there. ent above Salmon la Sac. Fished dries for what were mostly small Redbands. Got a few, missed a lot. Last place we fished was just upstream from the reservoir. Did a lot of enjoyable casting, got nice drifts, just no fish. We we told "You should have been here last time." Nice day on the water.

I was really hoping that there would be enough dumb fish that one would hook itself while used my late Dad's bamboo rod. No such luck. One hit. But I did get to do a lot of casting with it in prepation for ext time.

Never had a lot of luck up there. Always ended up on the Yakima.
With the high irrigation flows, the fish are right next to the bank. No need to even get your feet wet to catch fish.

The time we floated the Yakima it was irrigation season and we did catch fish right off the bank/brush. But that section had no bank access. We are thinking of going back next month when, according to our guide, the flows drop, the fish are more concentrated, and we can both float and walk.

The water was actually rather comfortable to wet-wade in. But we stayed really shallow.

The flip flop on the water is generally done by ~ Sept 10th or so. Then the real fun begins.
The areas I like to fish with full irrigation are rip rap areas, casting dries upstream right next to the bank. Think of areas like just below the south Cle Elum bridge. Fish will sit in the soft water behind rocks waiting for a meal.
