Ok folks, since I have never fished either place, I was wondering where the readers of this board regarded the better fishing for wild steelhead? I understand that the streams running into the east side of the Island have run into hard times the past few years, although I bet you could find a lot more solitude.

I use to go up to the island every year for 4 or 5 days and fish the rivers. Lot of smaller rivers with good fishing but I haven't been up there in about 7 years. I also heard they haven't been all that good lately....would think the peninsula would be a better bet but it will be alot more crowded.

Dave-
Its been pretty slow up here, and crowded. I'd head across the strait. Getting excited to fish lenice when it open? I used to live over your way. Moved to PA in August.

Elkrun,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the 3 quality lakes do involve much of my time since I moved away from the Skagit and her salmon and steelhead. I was not really planning a trip to either place, (OP or VCI) was just wanting to read some discussion on where people thought the better fishing was. Thanks.

Many of the east coast Vancouver Island rivers are closed, and poor returns to those that are open to this point unfortunately. The west coast of the Island has had better returns although many of the rivers are less accessible.
